Surface Preparation Comments

a. Abrasive blasts clean to Sa2.5 (ISO 8501-1:1988) or SSPC-


SP10 “Near-White Blast Cleaning”. If oxidation has occurred
between blasting and application, the surface should be re-
blasted to the specified visual standard. Surface defects
revealed by the blast cleaning process, should be ground, filled,
or treated in the appropriate manner.

b. All surfaces to be coated should be clean, dry, and free from


contamination. Prior to paint application all surfaces should
be assessed and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:1992.

c. Inspection in accordance 2208-30000-1L-0013 rev. B1.

d. All paint and surface preparation abrasives shall be free of


lead, chromate, and crystalline silica. In addition, all paint
materials shall meet latest guidelines with respect to VOC.

3) Upon comple tion of protective coating work, Contractor shall p rovide stenciled
paint for identification and color coded labels that clearly indicate the flow
direction and the services or production streams of all major items of equipment.
Identification shall include at a minimum the equipment item number, the line
number and the descrip tion as indicated on drawings. Two opposite sides will be
stenciled with BLACK paint with numbers and letters app roximately 3 inches
high and/or labeled according to the following table.

4) For acceptable paint brands and conditions see paragraph 10 of customer


specification 2208-30000- 1L-0013 rev. B1.
5) Coating application in accordance paragraph 4 specification 2208-30000- 1L-0013
rev. B1.
6) Repair of damaged areas in accordance paragraph 5 specification 2208-30000- 1L-
0013 rev. B1.
7) Inspection in accordance paragraph 7 specification 2208-30000- 1L-0013 rev. B1.
8) IVRCA shall ensure that the coating system(s) specified herein fully comply with
any local and/or regional air quality or VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emission
standards or requirements. All materials shall comply with 2.80-lbs. per gallon VOC
(maximum), except for high temperature products. Should modifications or alternate
coating systems be required to meet such standards or regulations, Contractor shall
immediately notify Company and submit details of the proposed alternate system to
Company for review and acceptance. No additions, substitutions or changes to the
specified types of coatings shall be made without Company’s written approval.
