FUNDAMENTACIÓN
Esta Unidad Curricular representa para el estudiante de Idiomas la base inicial para la traducción
e interpretación de textos en Idioma Inglés.
SINOPSIS DE CONTENIDO
Approach to translation, similarities and differences between English and Spanish, Syntax and
morphology, translation procedures, textual analysis.

ACTIVITIES
Participation, workshops, homeworks, in-class drills, group work. Evaluation: Open test, written
test, oral and written quizzes. Drills will come from different sources and fields, as a way of
selecting grammar and syntax problems found in translating texts. Attendance and willingness to
active participation in class are paramount for getting the goals of the course.

CONTENT
Approach to Translation. Introduction. Defining translation.
UNIT I Main concepts: text (minimal, maximal), source language, 9 hours
target language, source text, language text, direct and inverse
translation.
Similarities and Differences between English and
Spanish. Genre, number, verbal tenses, modal verbs. Ing- 12 hours
UNIT II
forms and ways of translating. Cognates. True and false
friends. Linguistic interferences. Neologisms and borrowed
words. Idiomatic expressions.
Syntax and Morphology. Connectors. Word order. Article,
adjective, pronouns and adverbs. Relative position. 9 hours
UNIT III
Referentials
Translation Procedures. Modulating, omitting, adapting.
UNIT IV Transposition, compensation, paraphrasis. Oral interpretation. 9 hours
Textual Analysis. Peritextual boundary. Translation unit.
Typology. Sintactic and semantic coherency. / General 12 hours
