Subject: Literacy Topic: Cause and Effect: The effect of urbanization on land

Closing Points:
Over the course of the next two weeks - we are going to look more
closely at the impact of industrialization on the way that the land
changes and the amount of green space - grass, trees, parks,
playgrounds - that are in a city.
Anticipating students’ - Potential confusion about what cause and effect is:
responses and your - Reiterate - in examples of cause and effect, the thing
possible responses: that causes something will always happen before the
effect. This doesn’t always occur within the text, but
it’s important to think through - what would happen
first?

students to refer back to
Accommodations: - Students will turn in their cause and effect sheet -- for
students that show confusion about the concept and
connection to our real life, I will pull a small group to review
the activity and concept of cause and effect during
Independent Reading Time
- Pre-write cause and effect examples from text, have student
sort them into the appropriate categories, as needed.
- Guide students to specific pages and list either the cause or
effect
- Pg. 14 (C: more cars going down country road, E:
people built a cement/asphalt road)
- Pg. 16 (C: Road built in country E: more people
building houses in the country)
- Pg. 20 (C: city noisy at night, E: night time not as
peaceful as in the country)
- Preview vocabulary words from the text that may be difficult
to understand.
