Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This tool is helpful for all of students because it is something that can be
done online. Students can take their time doing it and not feel pressured by having to write all of their
answers down. It can help visual learners because pictures are provided and the website is colorful. It can
help ADD learners because it allows them to stay focused. It can also be helpful to students who are English
Language Learners because they do not have to worry about spelling everything correctly and can take their
time. Lastly, I think it is beneficial because it can be accessed at home.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before the activity, I will ask students to describe the current weather they see out of our window. We can
make a list of characteristics we notice and categorize them together. After they are done discussing, I will
present a PowerPoint that explains all of the different types of weather. We will go through the sun, clouds,
and more. I would have them draw what clothes they would wear for specific weather so they can apply this
learning to their everyday lives. I would also want to have a bulletin board dedicated to weather and
introduce how we will use this knowledge every day of class. This is so they can see how data can be
monitored over time. Lastly, we would watch a short clip of a weather forecast so they can see how
weathermen use the same data we are collecting to predict the weather to come.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: During the activity, I would allow all students
to relax their minds for a minute and then tell them to begin. I would create a calm environment by playing
light music. I would allow them to ask questions if they need help since it is not a test. However, I would not
allow collaboration among students. The students would need to complete the activity individually. When
finished, the students would need to sit quietly and play an educational game on their tablet until the rest of
class is finished… which I could monitor through the website results.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
There is a link in this lesson idea and on Weebly.
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will display the correct answers so students can understand why they did not receive points for all of the
questions. I want them to learn from their mistakes so they will know in the future.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After, I would summarize what we have learned. Although this was a brief introduction to this standard – it is
a building block we will use throughout the year. Students need to understand the importance of collecting
data from weather and being able to interpret what it means. We will discuss the questions, and I will allow
students to discuss as well. I would prefer to end the lesson with a fun, short music clip of weather.
How will the data be used? This data will be used to help me understand what the students do or do not
understand. I will use it to know what I need to reiterate in future classes. I will take it as a participation
grade. I would not use the grade they received as their grade, because it is their first time learning it. I can
post the actual grade online but explain that it was an introductory assessment but it does not count so
parents can see progress later on. I will not discuss the data with the class, but rather thank them for
completing it. I would discuss the grade later on if we have been going over the information for a while and
they are still incorrect.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I have never used an online tool to do a quiz, so this is
new and exciting! I think it will help students learn because it puts less pressure on them. Personally, since it
is instantly graded so rather than taking the time to grade, I can take the time to learn how to teach better for
next time.

Reflective Practice: I think this could impact classroom learning because students would be happy to
participate in activities like this versus intimidating tests. I think that they will not think of it as much as a quiz,
but rather an opportunity to use the tablets. This way the class will have more positive attitudes and stay
happy to learn. To further extend this lesson, I can use these questions along with more questions towards
the end to see their progress. You could also use the Plickers tool when taking the quiz with the same
questions to see what students are understanding across the room!
