SUMMARY

This proposal is submitted for a video project entitled “How to Conduct Your
Experiment Safely” that would be recorded at UniKL Micet. The theme of this video would
be safety first. Its main purpose is to give a clarification on what can be done and what should
not be done when conducting an experiment. All students and workers must be reminded that
their safety is a number one priority whenever they are in a laboratory. Other than that, this
video would give everyone a clear vision on how to wear Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE) properly besides, the correct way to handle different type of apparatus. Finally, the
video aims to introduce the good etiquette when entering or leaving the laboratory. Therefore,
to achieve the target, the recording of this video was planned to be executed starting on week
6. After that, the editing shall be done by week 9 as the video are planned to be uploaded on
YouTube as it is a more effective medium to broadcast the video. The video is targeting
primarily students, due to educational purpose. In order to ensure the success of this project,
the YouTube link would be spread using other social media such as Facebook, Twitter,
WhatsApp and Instagram. Other than that, a target was set for the number of viewer as this
would promote a better sharing or interaction between group members and targeted
audiences. The amount of total budget required for this program would be RM 200 only. It is
because the recording would take place at UniKL Micet. At the end of this program, without
hesitation, we are certain that all the aims will be achieved. With the favourable turnover, it
can bring positive value in terms of their safety precaution thus, contributing good things in
future.

INTRODUCTION

Science and technology are two of the most important things which can be considered
as basic needs in one’s life development. Nowadays, people are using technology to help
them in their daily life. There are many aspects in which people are using technology to
enhance their life performances, especially for education purposes. Therefore, providing a
video as a medium of technology would help all generation to learn new things and widen
their knowledge. Thus, for our project, a video entitled “How to Conduct your Experiments
Safely” would be recorded at UniKL Micet and uploaded on YouTube. The main purpose of
this video is to give an exposure to everyone so that they would learn something new and
able to conduct the experiment safely and in a proper way. In other word, people would be
able to understand what safety is because without adequate knowledge on safety the
experiment cannot be conducted successfully. This video would be presenting some of the
experiment conducted at UniKL Micet laboratory. As this university has the best and up-to-
date equipment used in chemical technology field, it involves many equipment and chemical
when conducting experiments. Due to that, there are many physical hazards that could harm
the students inside the laboratory. Therefore, this video provides a very important knowledge
that only can be recorded in UniKL Micet. These knowledges would expand widely to the
community to be applied at their working places and especially for the students. Furthermore,
based on the problems during experiments, this video would introduce the important of
wearing PPE. It presents on how to wear PPE in a proper way, and handling the chemical and
equipment in a proper way to overcome the hazard that might occur throughout the
experiment. As a conclusion, hopefully this video can achieve a good feedback from the
viewers and introduce a good practice for everyone.

NEEDS/PROBLEMS

For years, there are many issues and accident involving students and workers while
conducting experiments in laboratory or working in hazardous condition. They tend to ignore
the importance of having a safety precaution neither in laboratory nor in workplace.
There are many reasons which may cause these problems to arise such as:
- Many people do not know the proper way on how to have a good Personal protective
equipment (PPE)
- Students or workers tend to use the equipment wrongly which lead to failure in
obtaining the correct result and worst, lead to injuries
- They do not have awareness on the effect of ignoring the safety precaution
- They do not get to right source on any information regarding the proper way of
wearing PPE and handling laboratory equipment
Thus, the idea of making the videos on how to wear a proper PPE and equipment were
believed can improve this matter from rising

OBJECTIVES

The intention of working on this project is to certify with a few objectives that we would like
to achieve such as;
- To educate people on how to wear a proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- To educate people on the correct way of handling the laboratory apparatus and
equipment
- To give awareness on the effect that might occur if they refuse to wear a proper PPE
or using the equipment wrongly
- To help preventing any sort of accident and injuries which might occur in the
laboratory session or during work
- To give clarification on “do” and “don’t” when conducting experiments
- To give ideas on how to use and keep the equipment in laboratory correctly
- To practice good etiquette when entering and leaving the laboratory

BUDGET

The budget for this video project is quite low since the recording session would be conducted
in UniKL Micet. The minimum day require to finish recording the video is 2 days. If the
duration is longer than expected, the budget would not be changing much either.
The students can use the laboratory with lab assistant permission, and no payment is
required. Other than that, camera rental would not be needed as our photographers has their
own camera. Lastly, there would be no cost require for advertising the video. The YouTube
link can be easily share by using other social media. Hence, all the budget would be spent on
food (breakfast and lunch) and drinks during the recording sessions only. The roughly
estimated budget for this video project is RM 200 only.
