To Select a Ring and Verify Ring Installation
Before beginning, ensure that the mil end is.
made up- proper
For API Buttress, the face of the
‘coupling should be within one thread
tum of the base ofthe triangle stamp for
‘minimum power tight makeup and to the
‘apex ofthe triangle for maximum
makeup
For API B-round, the face of the
‘coupling should be flush withthe thread
vanich point or within two thread turns,
plus or minus, ofthe thread vanish
poi.
Pace the MLT Ring Selector Gauge against
the coupiing thread cresis and slide unt it
‘contacts the mill end pin tp,
Normally, the plate gauge contacts the rill
‘end pin tip and the coupling face aligns with
‘one of the colored rectangles as shown in
Figure 1, In this case select a ring of the
‘color corresponding to the color which aligns
wih the coupling face. In the example shown
in Figure 1, a bve ring is selected.
Ir withthe plate gauge contacting the mill
‘end pin tip, the coupling face does not reach
the green rectangle, as shown in Figure 2,
the mill end pin is made up too far andthe
joiat should be set aside.
It withthe piate gauge contacting the mill
‘end pin and, the coupling face extends
beyond the yellow rectangle, as chown in
Figure 2, the mill end pin fs not made up far
‘enough or the coupling is excessively long
‘and the joint should be set aside.
Install the Ring as per the ring installation
procedure on the next page,
‘With a rng installed, place the plate gauge
against the coupling thread crests and sie
ituntl it contacts the installed ring face
‘The coupling face should land within the
“nstalied Ring’ black rectangle. To Install a Multi Lobe Torque (MLT) Ring
