SENIOR PROJECT SELF-EVALUATION

Directions: Utilize this worksheet to help evaluate yourself and your project. Be as complete
and descriptive as possible. This self-evaluation should give the scoring team and your teacher a
clear picture of what you accomplished in your project.

Name - Daejah Majette Project Start Date – January 30, 2018

Title of Project - Caged In Project Completion Date - March 27, 2018

1. In 40 words or more describe who your project benefited and how. In other words, what was the
impact of your project?

My project was pushed towards the aid of those non-violent offenders in prison. The impact of my project
was informing and teaching those who attended. Most people do not think about those who are
imprisoned or believe that what is being done for them may be adequate. Attendees told me that they felt
as if they had learned a great deal about non-violent offenders and the conditions of prison, despite
whether they had prior knowledge or not.

2. In at least 40 words explain how the project challenged you. How was this a stretch for you?

I have never needed to plan something to this capacity before. I usually take the backseat and have an
adult take the wheel for me. This was solely a me mission, and I was not prepared for that prior to this
year. I don’t even make doctor’s appointments for myself, so planning an entire event put a weight on my
shoulders.

3. List and then describe 5-8 fundamental ideas/concepts/skills of your project, which you
learned/enhanced during your project.

● Escape Room - I learned how to create and administer a timed escape room
● Authority - In a group of my friends, I don’t take authority but when noise became too much or I
had to get back on topic, I had to take the initiative to get my project back on track.
● Event Planning - I learned how to plan an event on my own while making sure everything went
how I wanted
● Problem solving - when I encountered problems within my project, including certain parts of my
project not working the day of, I had to learn how to improvise with what I had and move on for
the better
● Time management - Throughout high school, managing your time can come difficult at times, but
through my project I learned that I had to make certain sacrifices in order for my project to go
through correctly.
4. List and describe 4-8 problems/obstacles/issues you encountered in your project, and briefly
describe how you solved each.

● Venues - Finding a venue took weeks, and became a very discouraging process. Places turned me
down for many reasons, including my age. In order to solve this, I had to show determination and
continue to call/ email multiple venues before I could secure a location.
● Escape Room - The day of my project, certain locks that needed to be used in my escape room
were difficult to work. I gave up on them and had my helpers sit in the rooms and “be the lock”
for certain steps to the room
● Doors - The venue I used did not have the front doors open, and I feared my attendees would get
lost. In order to resolve this issue, my helpers created a last minute sign and aided those looking
for where I was.
● Time - I was still setting up escape rooms when people started arriving. Luckily I had helpers
who I taught how to make the clues who were able to finish it for me while I greeted early guests.
● Technology - The projection needed a filter change, and the notification had showed up on the
screen when I arrived at my venue. This resolved itself, and the notification eventually went away
on its own.

5. List all people who helped you on the project and briefly describe the help given.

● Mrs. Hill (Consultant) - While she was not hands on, she definitely kept me on track with what I
needed to do, while also giving me ideas to take back to class in order to push my project
forward.
● Helpers/ Volunteers (Adriana Peoples, Deziree Price, Elizabeth Taylor, Jordyn Bell) - My friends
came directly from practice in order to help me set up my project while I did other things to
prepare the day of. They helped set up escape rooms and take pictures for me.
● Zachary Roy - A friend of mine allowed my helpers to use his camera, so I could have decent
photographs for my weebly.
● Mom - I used my mom to test my escape room, and she was very willing to aid me in the process.
She also helped me pay for food that I needed at my event.
● Parkway Elementary (Mrs. Nicole Bailey (Assistant Principal), Mrs. Krista Arnold (principal) ) -
Parkway was my elementary school, and they were the only venue to say yes to me. Both the
Assistant Principal and the Principal corresponded with me and aided me in anything I needed
venue wise for my project.

6. How does your completed project compare to the picture you had in mind when you started the
project? Explain the reason behind any changes from your proposal.

My project is very similar to what I expected, minus a few tweaked arrangements. I still did an escape
room event. However, I did not show videos from the stanford experiment, nor did I dress up my
participants and “process” them. It would’ve taken too much time and cost too much money to do. I
did not have a guest speaker because once I began my project I personally did not feel the need for
one.
7. If given the opportunity, explain what you would have done differently now that you speak from
experience?

I would have opted for a smaller size presentation space. My venue allowed me the cafeteria and
three classrooms, and I presented in the cafeteria. It honestly made for too much space. Despite
having twenty people come, my attendance looked small, which made me nervous on stage.

8. Beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself? What did you get out of the
experience in terms of personal growth?

I learned that I put too much doubt on myself. I over critique when I don’t need to, but all in all that
makes anything I complete better than if I did otherwise. Personally, I felt as if I took a step towards being
an adult. I finally had the opportunity to prove to myself that I can plan something on my own, and have it
run smoothly in the end despite mishaps along the way.

9. What grade would you give yourself on the project? Be honest! Justify the evaluation of your
grade in at least 25 words.

Grade: B+

Justification: I would give myself an B+for many reasons. First off, I’ve noticed that many people seek
the easy way out when I explained what I wanted to do for my project. When I brought up my topic,
people would constantly say that I should’ve saved my time and rented an escape room instead. However,
I felt accomplished after creating something to that caliber and having it executed quite well. My
presentation proved to actually be very informational to those who attended. I received texts, as well as
answers to a survey, where people felt that they actually learned something that day, which made me feel
as if I had done them a service. People told me that it seemed as if I knew what I was talking about, and
that I had done a great job. I feel my presentation could’ve been better because I felt nervous, but I also
felt as if I articulated well. Along with teaching I also made it fun for people who were closer to my age.
