Subject: Physics

Standard 1: Mechanics

Unit 1: Investigating fundamental physical quantities of length, mass, and time.

Formative assessment 1- During note taking or an experiment, ask students what random

quantities such as Grams, Feet, Hours and Pounds all convey and what measurement and

equation they are all used in.

Formative assessment 2- Ask students to demonstrate what they know about how mass, length

and time, how they are determined, tools used to measure the physical quantities listed, and

units that each measurement can use.

Formative assessment 3- Evaluate the dynamics of systems in motion including friction, gravity,

impulse and momentum, change in momentum, and conservation of momentum. Coefficient of

Friction: μ = Ff/FN; Law of Universal Gravitation: FG = (Gm1m2)/d2 ; Impulse: FΔt = mΔt.

(Calculators are allowed if necessary)

molecules, that are contained in the amount of substance given by one mole.

B. Pascal’s Principle states that a pressure change occurring anywhere in a

confined incompressible fluid is transmitted throughout the fluid such that the

same change occurs everywhere.

C. According to Pascal’s principle, at any point inside a static fluid the vertical rate

of increase of pressure must equal the local specific weight of the fluid.

D. Pascal’s principle states that a particle attracts every other particle in the

universe using a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses

and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.

response on the applications of Bernoulli’s Principle.

True or False- Newton’s first law states that; for every action an object creates, there

will be an equal and opposite reaction on that object.

Explain in what ways Newton’s three laws impacted the scientific community and how

his contributions affected how we view the study of physics today.

Reflection-

For my subject, I chose senior physics, and used Standard 1 Mechanics and Unit 1:

Investigating fundamental physical quantities of length, mass, and time. Using a subject

that is so dependent on words and mathematics allowed me to implement the higher

levels of my vocabulary and also showed me how to, as well as how not to, write a good

assessment, with some of my formative questions being pretty basic, yet most of my

summative questions being wonderful. Not only did I include questions that challenged

students, but I also included questions that were related to the standard of my subject.
