FAQ v2.0
compiled by sodaklady (11/08)
expanded by cwsipe (8/10)

This FAQ attempts to bring together information from the collective wisdom of BGG users (including Dan
Verssen, the game’s designer) and also contains answers from the short “official” FAQ on the DVG website
(http://www.dvg.com/).

1. GENERAL

Q: What is the difference between an area, region, and objective?

A: Areas are the small map sections containing a name in white lettering. A region is the larger
division of the map, with borders denoted by thick lines (Ghost Division has 2 regions; North Africa and
D-Day have 3 regions). An objective area is an area containing a flag symbol.

Q: Do you win the instant you hold the objective(s) indicated in the ‘Victory’ section on the map
or do you have to survive the Allied turn?
A: You win the instant you capture the objective(s).

Control of an Area:

Q: Do you hold an area if you were the last unit to pass through it?
A: No. You must have a unit in an area to control it. The only exception is objective areas, which are
held by the side whose flag is shown if no forces are present.

Q: Can you place units in an area that is not currently held by Axis forces?
A: Unless indicated in the Resupply area of the map (e.g. Tripoli in North Africa), you must hold area to
place units there (i.e. have at least one force in the area).

2. BATTLE

Q: During the first battle round, are all attacking and defending hits made before any unit is
reduced?
A: All units fire simultaneously, so no hits are resolved (i.e. units are reduced) until both attacking and
defending hits have been tallied. Units are then reduced accordingly and battle either ends as normal
or proceeds to a second round if the Press Battle Plan in play.

Q: The rules state that a unit must return to the space it occupied prior to battle if all defenders
are not eliminated. Does this mean the space the unit left immediately before the battle or does
the unit have to move back to the space where it began the turn?
A: The unit returns to the space it occupied immediately before entering the battle area.

Upgrades:

Q: Do you have to choose the force to be upgraded before drawing an upgrade counter, or can
you draw the counter and then decide which force will receive the upgrade?
A: You may draw the counter first and then decide which unit will receive it.

Q: If all winning forces are already elite, are you allowed to draw another upgrade after a
successful battle?
A: No, you do not receive an upgrade in this case.
Q: If a unit is destroyed in the first round of battle, is an upgrade awarded immediately (i.e.
before the continuation of the battle via Press)?
A: Upgrades are only awarded at the conclusion of a battle.

3. BATTLE PLANS (BPs)

Q: Which BPs stay in effect after the first battle round?

Single use BPs: Ambush, Assault, Cohesion, Deploy, Dig-In, Disrupt, Exploit, Intel, Press, Tactics.
Persistent BPs: Artillery, AT Guns, Air Raid, German 88’s, Overrun.
Salvage is a special case and used once at the end of the battle.

Ambush:

Q: What is the sequence of steps for resolving a battle when Ambush is played?
A: 1) Ambush side rolls for hits; 2) opponent reduces his forces accordingly; 3) opponent rolls for hits;
4) Ambush side reduces his forces accordingly.

Q: When Allies play an Ambush, do they use their Attack value? And the Axis uses their
Defense value?
A: The stat used depends on the situation of the Ambush. When a force moves into an area to initiate
battle, their Attack value is used. When a force has an enemy move into its area, its Defense value is
used.

Q: Does Intel take effect before Ambush?

A: Yes. Resolve all Intels first.

Q: If two Ambushes are drawn by the Allies, what happens to the second one?
A: Two Ambushes have no more effect than a single since the Ambush action occurs only during the
first round of battle. Two Ambushes will not allow the Ambush action to occur in second or subsequent
battle rounds.

Deploy:
Q: If the Allies are attacking and draw a Deploy, where does the deployed unit retreat to when
they fail to clear the area?
A: You get to choose a legal area (via Dan Verssen on ConSimWorld).

Dig-In:

Q: Can a Dig-in be used to absorb a hit from an Allied Ambush?

A: No. Ambush occurs before Axis BPs get to act (exception: Intel; see above).

Exploit:

Q: Can an Exploit be used to split a group of units into two or three forces to attack separate
adjacent occupied areas?
A: No. Each time you Exploit, it must be into only one area.

Q: I have battles in two adjacent areas, can I Exploit in one battle to advance my remaining units
into the adjacent battle area?
A: No. All battles take place simultaneously. First, resolve all battles then move the Exploiting forces to
new areas.

Q: How many times can Exploit be used in one turn?

A: According to official rules, units can Exploit as many times as you have Supplies to spend.
However, Dan Verssen has also suggested an optional rule where Exploit movements count toward a
unit’s maximum movement allowance (via BGG forum post).

Intel:

Q: How do you choose a Battle Plan to remove when using Intel?

A: This should be a random removal rather than your choice. Roll a die to determine which BP to
remove, or mix them face down and pick one at random.

Overrun:

Q: Does the Overrun Battle Plan increase the superscripted Attack value?
A: No. It only increases the base Attack value.

Q: What happens if two Overrun tiles are drawn by the Allies?

A: The overrun tiles stack to give +2 to attack and defense.

Salvage:

Q: Do you count hits from all rounds of battle?

A: Yes. You receive supplies from any hit incurred during a battle at the conclusion of combat.

Q: Does Salvage work even if you lose the battle?

A: Yes.

4. AXIS RESUPPLY

Q: Can you use Resupply Points to buy Supplies and then use those newly purchased supplies
to buy forces in my Reinforcement pile?
A: Yes. During the Resupply phase, you can spend your Resupply points and Supplies as needed. For
example, you can spend Resupply points to get Supplies, pay Supplies to move a destroyed force to
the reinforcement pile, and then spend additional Resupply points to place the force on the map.

Q: Can you use Supplies to buy Resupply points?

A: No, the exchange is one way only (i.e. spend Resupply points for Supplies).

Q: When bringing in reinforcements, can you disregard the limitations of the Supply Check
symbols (in other words, overstack)?
A: Yes. The supply check penalty is only incurred during the Supply Check phase.

3. ALLIED GAME TURN

Allied Operations:

Q: If Allies are placed in an occupied zone during an Operation and the battle is not decided, is
the Allied force treated as destroyed?
A: No, continue fighting until one side is completely eliminated.

Allied Orders:

Q: The rules state to roll la die for each Region and consult the Allied Orders chart to determine
movement actions for the units in that Region. Does this mean you roll the die once and ALL
units in that Region follow the results or do you roll for each unit individually?
A: Yes. Roll one die per Region and apply the results to all of the Allied forces in the Region (note the
special case of the Random order; see below). All orders in a region happen at the same time so a
force will not be affected twice.

Q: Do all Allies within an entire region advance before battle is initiated?

A: Yes. All Allies on the map execute their movement before battle occurs.

Q: How do you perform Random movement for Allied orders?

A: Roll a die for each force’s Random order. The intent was to simulate disorganization in the Allied
High Command.

Allied Resupply:

Q: Do you only roll for the Allied territories listed in the resupply section that already contain
Allied forces?
A: No, roll for all territories listed in the Allied resupply section of the map.

Q: The first roll of the Allied Resupply section of the map is denoted X-. What does this mean?
A: X- denotes a roll of 1-X.

4. MISCELLANEOUS

Q: The German 6th Para and 714th infantry forces do not appear on any setup or reinforcement
listings?
A: That is correct. They were included for possible additional scenarios and are not used in the
standard scenarios.

Rule Example Questions:

Q: The Battle Moves example on page 5 shows a movement that does not end up in an Allied
controlled area. I’m confused.
A: That example shows how movement expends supply rather than a Battle Move. Yes, a Battle Move
must end in an area containing an enemy.

Q: On page 11, the second example of Axis Resupply says you would receive 10 Resupply
points. Shouldn’t that be 11?
A: Yes. That’s a typo.
