LECTURE NAME : SIR SALLEH BIN TALIB

SECTION : 6
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

English is absolutely essential to realize the government intends to advance the country to
achieve Vision 2020 to be equivalent to other countries. The use and mastery of English should
be noted because English is an international language widely used. The use of English in
Malaysia was formally taught and included as a syllabus at the beginning of pre-school education
(Siti Hamim Stapa, Nadzrah Abu Bakar and Rozmel Abdul Latiff, 2007). English subjects are
required by all students from one to five levels. Even the use of English is also intensified at
local universities in the learning process.

The Ministry of Higher Education has also enforced the Science and Mathematical and
Mathematical Science and Technical in English (PPSMTI) since 2008. However, until 2011 the
implementation of PPSMTI was mainly from the teaching aspect of UTHM.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

This study was conducted to examine the constraints faced by UTHM students in implementing
PPSMTI from the teaching aspect in the classroom. Based on observation, the constraints faced
were the attitude of the students who did not want to use English fully during the teaching
process. Lack of student knowledge also affects their confidence in using English. In addition,
the skills among students are also an obstacle to them to use English as the medium of
instruction in the classroom.
OBJECTIVES

The purpose of the study is generally to find out the factors that cause the problem of using
English among students in the teaching process. Specific objectives are:

a. Determine whether the attitude factor affects the use of English in the teaching process
among students.

b. Determine the level of knowledge factors that influence the use of English in the
teaching process among students.

c. Determining the level of skill factor that affects the use of English in the teaching
process among students.

RESEARCH QUESTION AND WORKING HYPOTHESIS

My research topic is: The Effects On The Implementation Of Teaching Engineering Subjects In
English.:
 Self study among students can help student learning English?

 How often self study among students?

 How can student learn English self study among students?

My work hypothesis that self-study among students can improve English as most students
can work with most people using English such as regular informational presentations when they
work. In other Asian countries, many language members have paid more attention to this study,
which connects students. This method of teaching is very helpful and useful for beginners to
understand the language skills of new and complex words. The use of self-study in teaching is
interesting and effective in learning English. In addition, it can not be concluded that students
can learn strategies to master English pronunciation.
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

Education in Malaysia is a continuous effort towards expanding the potential of

individuals in a comprehensive and integrated way to create harmonious and intellectual,
intellectual, physical, and emotional human beings based on belief and obedience to God. This
effort is to produce Malaysians who are knowledgeable, competent, noble, responsible and
capable of achieving their well-being and contributing to the harmony and prosperity of society
and nation (Ministry of Education Malaysia). In realizing the direction of national education,
UTHM has been using English in the process of teaching and learning.

The use of English is a challenge in the education system as it is a foreign language in the
Malaysian education system. According to Kern (2000), most foreign language courses aim to
develop students' competencies in this field. In an era of globalization and a borderless world,
graduation needs to equip itself from all aspects to spearhead our country's administration.

According to Azizi Yahaya, Shahrin Hashim and Fadhlina Mohd Azizuddin (2010), the
use of English in science and technology, trade medicine and others is obvious, especially in the
era of globalization and knowledge-economics. In the field of information and communication
technology, English is widely used as if it were a fact that to acquire knowledge and information
must be through English. This makes English a very important technology language.
LIMITATION OF STUDY

The study was carefully prepared, we conducted this study with some students interviewing to
find out the problems they faced during their conversations in the language

First of all, research has been conducted in two ways to collect data and information using
survey methods and methods of interviews. From the time frames that have been given, the time
it takes to collect some results after the task is given.

Secondly, a small study group, only acquires a few students and may not represent the majority
students at the middle level.

Additionally, since the interviews were conducted only a few students who cooperated, the
question was made by the author himself, inevitably in this study.
REVIEW OR LITERATURE

In the 2007 Teaching and Learning Conference on the theme of 'Towards Increasing
Human Capital' explains the use of English not just to meet basic needs and education, but more
importantly it can assist in the individual and social needs of individuals in future. Hence, early
preparations at the school level and institute of higher education are desirable to help improve
the performance of future students, as well as the supply of knowledge provided. Hence, the
country's effort to breed and create a 21st century Malaysian society that is competitive and
globalization is achievable.

Toh Wah Seng (2005) defines physical factors such as the quality of infrastructure and
facilities is a factor that can not be controlled by schools. Teacher quality is the key factor that
determines learning and deduction, it is a factor that can change the quality of the school. It is
also a factor that can be changed. Hannafin and Freeman (1995) point out that the teacher's view
of the enrichment process will influence their opinion on the use of Computer-Assisted
Language Learning (PBBK) in their class.

This concept demonstrates the development of professionalism as a process and not a

product and holds to the assumption that students can generate their own knowledge, examine
and understand self-practice with the aim of improving practice. A student who also refers to a
lecturer being a reflective practitioner. Toh Wah Seng (2005) divides reflection into three
categories: First reflection type is a technical reflection involving research on the effectiveness of
a practice or action in achieving its objectives.

Start-ups usually make a reflection at this stage as they are still not ready to undergo an
ever-increasing world and their concerns and concerns are still focused on self-efficacy.
Therefore, their reflection focuses on technical issues in the classroom such as classroom
learning and memorization techniques.

The second type is practical reflection, and it examines not only the effectiveness of
practice or action but also its objectives and content. The assumptions about an objective or
learning outcome are examined and questioned in terms of relevance and relevance to the context
and environment of students and communities. For example, the objectives and content of the
designed lessons may be appropriate for students from the city but less appropriate for the
context of students in rural schools. Therefore, reflection at the practical level focuses not only
on the outcome of the student's actions but also takes into account the context and environment
of the student.

Third type reflection is a critical reflection. It encompasses the first and second stages
and also considers ethical, moral, and moral issues about the practices or actions, objectives and
results or effects thereof. For example, at this stage, students not only question the effects and
implications of action in terms of relevance and relevance but also examine the implications and
implications of action in terms of moral, ethical and justice issues. For example, students
examine how well her practice ensures equality and justice are ensured. Is the practice of the
student benefiting outsiders and not just to certain groups of students ?. How well does a student
practice not only achieve a good performance goal in the examination but also achieve the goal
of National Education Philosophy in terms of producing harmonious, thorough and skilled
people?

If it is not a daily speech, the teaching will be stunted and ineffective because students
can not diversify vocabulary and teaching to facilitate outsiders to understand what they want to
convey. It not only negatively affects the quality of the country's education but also the students
will not master the subjects learned successfully
METHODOLOGY

In this study, two methods were used to collect data and information using questionnaires
and interview methods. A survey was conducted among students by giving them questions in the
questionnaire related to research topics. The results of the questionnaire will be evaluated and
shown in the graph of the pie chart.

The second method used to collect data for this research proposal is by using interviews.
We have 15 people. Questions used in the interview are the same as in the questionnaire. We
also want to get feedback from them and to be true about how to learn from one another to help
them learn English.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

In this section, the formula to be presented is based on the question of the researcher. It is
divided into three divisions namely student attitudes, student knowledge and student skills.

Self study

Self-study in this context is that any student or student who is fluent can help other
students. For example, a student who fluently speaks English so that other friends can hear and
study with the results of the two-way system. There are also skilled learners in terms of the prose
that can not be fluent in English but can understand the friends what has been said.

Students

Student in this context of study is people who come from age 7 and above who learn and
practice English in their daily basis. The targeted people is restricted to Malaysian and it covers
both male and female.
