ACTIVITY TITLE: Mr.

Wolf TEACHER: Kiera Alfonso


TYPE: No equipment game
TARGET AUDIENCE: DL 1, K-2nd
EQUIPMENT: None

Psychomotor: Hops, gallops, jogs and slides using a mature pattern. (S1.E1.1)
Cognitive: Follows the rules and parameters of the learning environment. (S4.E2.1)
Affective: Applies simple defensive strategies/ tactics in chasing and fleeing activities. (S2.E5.4b)

ORGANIZATION OF STUDENTS: Students start the game off by standing on one half of the playing area
(ideally this would be one half of the gym space)
ACTIVITY SET UP: Yellow star= Mr./Mrs. Wolf, Blue stars= the sheep

INSTRUCTIONS:
 Object: Object of the game for the sheep is to avoid getting tagged and the object of the game for Mr.
Wolf is to tag as many people as possible
 Organization of equipment and students: Students are spread out across one half of the gym/playing
area and Mr. Wolf is on the other half of the gym/playing area
 Anticipatory Set:
o “What does everyone think that wolf eat?”
o “Do we think that wolf eat sheep or sheep eat wolves?”
o “Let’s play a game involving sheeps and wolves!”
 Directions:
o First the teacher should establish a playing area with one half of the playing area being the
Forest (where Mr. Wolf is) and the other half being the Forest’s edge (where the sheep are).
o Have all the students stand on the Forest’s edge. They will be the sheep.
o The teacher stands on the opposite end of the Forest. The teacher will play the role of Mrs/Mr
Wolf.
o On the teacher’s cue, the sheep will call out “What time is it Mr. Wolf?
o Mr. Wolf will respond by saying an hour (e.g. 4 o’clock).
o The sheep will then move forward that amount (the time that Mr. Wolf called) of large steps.
o This continues until Mr. Wolf responds to the sheep’s question with “lunch time!”
o When the wolf says this, all of the sheep must then run back to the forest’s edge before getting
tagged by Mr. Wolf.
o If a sheep is tagged, they will join Mr. Wolf as a wolf.
o Game continues until all of the sheep have been turned into wolves.
 Demonstration: Demonstration for this game can be shown by having one student show the rest the
stepping forward part and calling “What time is it, Mr. Wolf?” while the teacher responds and then
yells “lunch time.”
 Variations:
o Students can perform different locomotor movements instead of taking steps (tip toeing,
crawling, bear walking, etc.)

TEACHING TIPS/MODIFICATIONS:
 If teacher is worried that the students will not tag safely, they can have the students use pool noodles
to tag instead.
 Pinnies can be used to signify who is who.

SAFETY:
 Be careful not to push or run into others whenever running to the Forest’s edge.
 Only soft tags are permitted. No hitting your peers.
