INFORMATION SHEET
1 INTRODUCTION
This document describes how to upgrade the power level capability of an NV3.5, NV7.5,
NV15 or NV30 FM broadcast transmitter to that of an NV5, NV10, NV20 or NV40,
respectively.

1.1 Equipment Affected

This procedure applies to all NV3.5, NV7.5, NV15 and NV30 transmitters.

1.2 Responsibility for Implementation of Procedure

This procedure should be carried out by qualified station maintenance personnel who are
familiar with the NV series transmitters.

1.3 Scheduling
This procedure should be completed at the earliest convenience of the transmitter
maintenance personnel.

1.4 Manpower Requirements

Installation will require approximately 30 minutes. The transmitter must be "off-air" during this
upgrade.

1.5 Special Tools/Test Equipment

- Replacement control/interface PWB (Nautel Part # NAPC156*)

- NV Transmitter Technical Documentation, provided with your transmitter
- Phillips screwdriver

1.6 Publications Affected

This upgrade does not affect your NV series documentation. Your manual already covers
both variations of power level (e.g., NV3.5/NV5).

2 UPGRADE PROCEDURE

(a) With the transmitter operating, record all preset parameters from the front panel AUI to
allow preset setup on the new NAPC156* (A1). Refer to the NV Operations and
Maintenance Manual for more information on presets.

(b) Switch off (and lock out, if possible) main ac power to transmitter, and the UPS supply to
the UPS interface, if applicable.

(c) Open the front door to gain access to the control/interface PWB (A1). Refer to the NV
Troubleshooting Manual to locate the PWB.

(d) Remove all interconnecting plugs and wiring from the control/interface PWB. Note the
destination of each wire/connector.

(e) Remove and retain 10 sets of mounting hardware from the control/interface PWB.

(f) Pull the control/interface PWB away from the remote interface PWB (A2). It may be
helpful to gently pry the connector loose with a screwdriver.

(g) Mount the new control/interface PWB in the transmitter using the screws removed in
step (e). NOTE: the new PWB has been factory set with the upgraded transmitter type.

(h) Re-connect the interconnecting plugs and wiring to the new control/interface PWB using
the mating information on each cable as a guide.

(i) Switch on main ac power to the transmitter and the UPS supply to the UPS interface, if
applicable.

(j) Using the front panel AUI, re-create presets using the parameters recorded in step (a).
Transmitter output power can now be set to an increased level (e.g., 4130 W to 5500 W
for an NV3.5 to NV5 upgrade). Refer to the NV Operations and Maintenance Manual for
more information on presets.

(k) Return the transmitter to normal operation.

NOTE
If desired, retain the replaced control/interface PWB for use as a backup for ¾ power operation.
