Ms. Sarah Emington will undoubtedly be recognized one day for being an outstanding teacher!
I feel very confident making such a bold statement because she impressed me the first day I met
her.

My name is Susan Medler and I had the privilege of having Sarah complete a 40 hour college
requirement with me last fall. She spent 12 weeks observing, assisting, and teaching in my
third grade classroom. I have been teaching for 25 years and have had the opportunity to have
several Ferris State University students in my classroom. Some of the college students that I
worked with seemed uncomfortable around my students and not sure of what to do unless I
directed them. This does not describe Sarah. Sarah just had a natural comfort level around the
students and could jump in and help without my direction. She was able to communicate
effectively with students and other staff members. Ms. Emington’s welcoming personality and
rapport with the students were excellent.

I really enjoyed working with Sarah when she was preparing for her required lessons for my
classroom full of third graders. Her willingness to take suggestions, modify lessons, and then
reflect on the effectiveness of the lesson showed her motivation to do her best. Due to her
knowledge of the subject matter and creativity, students responded positively to her lessons.

I understand that Sarah is looking for a placement for her student teaching experience. I truly
believe that if you get the opportunity to work with Sarah, you will see for yourself what an
amazing young lady she is both inside and outside the classroom. You will see she has
tremendous initiative, a desire to continue to learn, and effective teaching strategies. I would
strongly encourage you to interview and to give serious consideration to this prospective teach-
er. She would be an asset to any school.
