on the website) with at least 2 choices (with priority numbered). All letters of request will be accepted until April 27th.
No letters will be accepted after April 27th. We are not responsible for students not turning in request letters.
*Administration does not meet with parents if your student is not granted the first requested teacher.

Way to Go DMC STEM Club: Our STEM Club entered the NV State Science Olympiad Competition and did wonderful for
their first year of competition! We were the only school who was new to the competition this year and placed 9 th out of 15th
overall! We were the only after-school club and competed against GATE Program, Private Schools, and Magnet Programs;
most of which went up to 6th grade. The following students competed in events at the Science Olympiad: Kimball Steffen,
Samatha Katz, Delaney Nash, Justin Stickland, Chase Crampton, Lucy Creer, Logan Griffith, McKenzie Haycock, Pakan
Pazargadi, Michael Steffen, Kate Swanburg, and Catherine Vu! Thank you to the teachers who Coach STEM Club voluntarily
and all the students for their hard work! You guys shine for DMC!

Congratulations to Logan Griffith and Pakan Pazargadi for placing 2nd in the Pasta Bridge Building Event!

Mothers and Muffins Date Change: The new date will be Friday, May 11th from 8:30-9:00 am in the MP Room. Mother
and students are invited to attend, have some pastries, juice, and coffee to celebrate our Moms!
Transitional Academic Night Next Thursday: On May 3rd, we will be having a “Moving Up Academic Night.” This is an
evening in which you attend the next grade’s presentation to hear about curriculum, supplies, and expectations. We will be
distributing curriculum guides some textbooks (which are no longer adopted by CCSD), and providing a question/answer time
for parents. So…your kindergarten student would attend the first grade presentation, first graders attend the second grade
presentation…and so on. *Greenspun will NOT be presenting this evening, it’s tailored for K-4th graders only.

LVL Up EXPO: The video game conference is in town May 4-6, 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and CCSD
provides additional passes at a discounted price. If you’re a CCSD employee then children 10 and under are free and you can
purchase a weekend pass at a discounted rate. To receive discount, go to www.lvlupexpo.com with the promotional code:
CCSD.

Parent Surveys Turned In: Thank you to all my families who turned in the annual parent survey forms by last Friday! We
had a record number turned in and that totaled out to 305 surveys! That’s 45% of our student body! The survey results will be
posted in next week’s newsletter.

Congratulations to our Staff: Mrs. Anderson and Ms. Galdi were awarded Teachers of the Year for our school in
Performance Zone 10 and will be honored at a luncheon tomorrow! Congratulations to amazing staff members!

Did you know? That this Wednesday is “Administrative Professional’s Day” in which we’re celebrating our wonderful office
staff for everything they do for us and our students and families! If you’re in the office this Wednesday please tell them
“Happy Professional’s Day.” We are providing gifts and Olive Garden lunch for them (one of their favorites)!

School Uniform Survey Coming: During a previous PTA meeting it was brought forth to consider a move towards school
uniforms. There is a process which must be followed in order to pursue school uniforms and this includes a vote from the
community. Dates have already passed in order to consider school uniforms for the 2018-2019 school year, however, there
will be survey coming home regarding interest for the 2019-2020 school year. It was recommended that the first step in this
process be surveying the community before initiating the paperwork which goes into changing to school uniforms.

SBAC Parent Participation: Students are working so diligently on their testing! We are proud of them and are 50% finished!
We are asking that you write positive notes to your child each day they are testing.

We also have school-wide quiet hours from 9:30-11:30 and adjust lunches and specialists schedules to
give our students the optimal testing environment. Once a student has begun a test, they cannot leave
school and come back into the building to pick up where they left off (all sections once started must be
finished).
*These tests do not affect your child’s reportcard grades or next year’s class placement and scores do not come out until July or August.

Did you know…For each day of SBAC testing, students put their names in a drawing for a chance at a
free bike! We gave away 6 more bikes last week to our 3 testing classes! Bike drawings will continue
throughout testing.

*All events listed are subject to change.
