Learning Objective
The objective of the lesson is what students will be able to do
as they finish the activity. For this objective, use the Standards

TIV.1 The student will work independently and
collaboratively as an actor to create formal and
informal presentations, including
1. depicting multidimensional characters;
2. depicting given circumstances; and
3. living truthfully in the moment.
The students will be using a program called Mindomo
to create a brainstorming activity in order to identify
and analyze the characteristics of a given character.
The students will be assigned a character from
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The students will
have to then dissect from the script; physical
appearance, background, personality, relationships
and the change the character goes through from the
clues within the script. The idea is for the students to
gather research on a character so that they can in turn
depict that character within their given circumstances
in a truthful and authentic moment. As an actor, one
must be able to research a character to better
understand how to portray that character.
The students must read the script and take notes on
their given character. From there, they must use
mindomo as a tool to organize their notes. By using
topics and subtopics, the students should be able to
create a mind map of their research to better
understand and analyze their characters.
Using Mindomo to make a mind map as a way to
quickly jot down and brainstorm information and
characteristics they find about the character in their
scripts.
Directions for Use
Please provide step-by-step instructions for your students to
use the tool to complete their assignment. Depending on the
age of your student, this might begin with 1. Click on Earth
to open the Internet. Etc..
1. Go to the internet browser and search for
https://www.mindomo.com
2. Click sign up in the top right corner.
3. Create your account (Enter an accessible email
address as you will have to open an email sent by
mindomo to verify you email address.)
4. Go to your email and verify your email address to
complete the signup process.
5. Click student.
6. Click through and read the small tutorial provided
for you by mindomo.
7. Click create in the top left corner of your screen.
8. Name your project after your assigned character
(i.e. Juliet Character Analysis).
9. Click on the down arrow on the title box to start
adding your subtopics.
10. Make 5 topics; physical appearance, background,
personality, relationships, and change.
11. From there, use subtopics to jot down the
information you have gathered on your character.
12. For reference on what the assignment is looking
for in each of the topics look to my sample
assignment at the bottom.
13. Get creative, if you have trouble with how to use
mindomo click on the “?” to find tutorials.
14. For extra credit try adding in pictures by clicking
the photo button on the left-hand side of your screen.
1.Search the internet for a picture (make sure it
is relevant to the script and not a portrayal to the
movies)
2.When you find a picture, right click on the
picture and select copy image address.
3.Go to mindomo and click the picture button
on the right side of the screen.
4.With the world icon highlighted, paste your
image URL into the space.
5.Hit enter.
15. My examples are very broad, use as many details
as you can find from the script.
16. When you have finished entering in all your topic
and subtopics full of information, click on the
presenter icon in the top right corner next to share.
17. To make new slides (so when you present you
can quickly show exactly where you are on your mind
map, click the add slide button at the top of your
screen. (you should make your title and your topics
slide 1.)

18. From there you will click add new slide every
time you want your presentation to move.
1. Click add new slide
2. Drag over what part of your mind map you
want shown for that side
3. Let go
4. Select add slide to create your next slide.
19. Check your presentation by clicking the play
button and clicking the next arrow through your
presentation.
20. When you have finished, press the back arrow
at the top right-hand side of your screen
21. Click the share button at the top right-hand
side of your screen.
22. Send the assignment to my email address.
23. Then click done.
