The Newfoundland and Labrador Collection, Provincial Resource Library has the Province’s
largest collection of Newfoundland and Labrador newspapers both in original format and on microfilm.
It is the principal repository of original copies of over 175 newspapers, the earliest of which is the Royal
Gazette and Newfoundland Advertiser from 1810. The newspaper indexes compiled by Gertrude
Crosbie and Mildred Howard provide a means of acquiring genealogical information from this
collection. The Historical Directory of Newfoundland and Labrador Newspapers (1807-1996) lists all
of the Collection’s newspapers.
