Summary of Data

Data were collected via a survey that was taken by 51 individuals. All individuals rage in

age, gender, education level as well as opinion. The goal of the surveys was to collect data

focused on the opinion and personal experience pertaining to creative classes. The data will also

reflect whether the participants agree that more classes should be offered, the importance of these

classes as well as whether they feel any positive result of participating in creative style classes.

According to Figure 2, 90% of the participants think it is important to offer classes past those

that are traditionally available in schools. This question holds great importance because it

illustrates whether the participants think art programs are important or not but also if they would

be interested in more specialized classes. A follow-up question to this one was what types of

classes one would like to see available, some of the most popular were painting, ceramics and

anything beyond that of a standard class.

Participation and Positive Feelings

The first connection that would be considered most relevant to compare would be the

comparison between the amount of those surveyed who participated in an art class and those who

saw a positive benefit. According to Figure 1, roughly 40% of those surveyed have participated

in a specialized art class before. The specialized art class is anything that is one concept i.e

ceramics, painting, and or glass blowing. Also, Figure 1 shows that 55% have not participated

and 6% are not sure whether they have or not. This data compared to that of Figure 3 is both

confusing as well as enlightening at the same time. Figure 3 shows that 82% feel positive

benefits from participating in some form of creative outlets. It would be expected for these two

graphs to be more similar in numbers however Figure 1 asks whether someone has participated

in a “specialized” art class. This would not include a beginner course, hobby, or sport. Based on

the information many feel positive benefits from different forms of creative outlets, however, to

feel the positive benefits it is not necessary to participate in a class. Also, in Figure 3 it shows

that about 10% of the participants do not feel any positive benefits from creative outlets. This is

to be expected because in the question it did not account for whether the positive benefits could

be seen in other areas such as sports or volunteering. Overall based on these two graphs a large

amount of the participants feel some form of positive benefits from a creative outlet whether that

is done through a specialized class or not. This shows a need for creative outlets in schools.
