1. A child, who while riding a bike is able to control their speed when going up or down hills and stop when needed
without help from a parent.
Associative: this child is able to perform the skill of riding her bike consistently with little to no errors.
They can detect errors and make changes accordingly.
If considering that the child is able to do everything needed to complete a bike ride (turning, standing up
to go up hill, etc) and considering that they do it without any help, they can be considered in
autonomous stage.
2. An adult swimming after shoulder surgery reminds herself to reach and pull the water when doing the front
crawl.
Cognitive: this adult has to remind themselves to pull the water which would put them in this phase.
3. An infant who has mastered walking while holding on to something learns to walk without holding on to
anything for the first time
Cognitive: because the infant most likely will not be able to maintain walking across the room without
holding onto anything, it is in the cognitive stage. It is probably near the associative stage though.
