Infant Product Design: 0-1 Year Old Development


Essential Question:​ How do children develop intellectually, physically, and socially/emotionally? How
can caregivers promote development in each of these areas of development?

Choose ​ONE ​of the following two options.

Option 1: Create a toy that promotes development for a child anywhere in the age range of birth to
age one that promotes development. Describe the materials used, label the items, and explain why
you designed the toy the way you did.

Option 2: Design a mobile to hang above an infant’s crib. Make the mobile or draw a detailed diagram
of it, describing the materials and labeling each item. Explain why you designed the mobile the way
you did.

Requirements
● Must be an innovative and original design (you can use products already on the market as
inspiration, but you can’t recreate something that is already being sold).
● The design should be professional (colored, outlined, no pencil.)
● The mobile/toy needs a creative name.
● The product you create needs to come with a product description and pitch in which you:
○ Identify the specific age range that it’s for.
○ Describe how it works.
○ Justify which type of development each part of the toy or mobile promotes.
