INTRODUCTION
This exam prep course covers all information in the current API-571 - Damage Mechanisms Affecting
Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry. The format has been developed to provide full coverage for API
certification exam preparation.

OBJECTIVES
API 571 Supplemental Inspection Certification program tests Inspectors’ knowledge and expertise in the
field of Corrosion and Materials. The examination questions are derived from API RP 571 - Damage
Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry. The Body of Knowledge for the examina-
tion consists of the entire RP 571 with the exception of the following sections: 1.1, 3.1, 4.1, 5.2.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND COURSE INSTRUCTORS & AUTHORS

Applicable to anyone in the petrochemical indus-
try or inspection / maintenance department.
(Managers, Engineers and inspectors who work for
owners, inspection companies, and government
agencies). Some degree of technical background
will be helpful but in order to sit for the exam, you
must have at least one current API certification
(510, 570 or 653) in order to qualify for this Supple-
mental Inspection Certification program.
Dr Will J. Carter, Ph.D., P.E is well versed in the API Codes and
Standards. Has 32 plus years professional background in failure
analysis, design, repair and construction of process equipment.
Expertise in the design, analysis, fabrication, failure
investigation, trouble shooting, repair and upgrading of
pressure vessels, tanks, pipelines and piping systems. Proven
record both within the USA and abroad in the design and
maintenance of pressure vessels, aboveground storage tanks,
piping systems and pipelines. Active participant on pressure
vessel and tank codes and standards Committees and a
Registered Mechanical Engineer.
