This study aims to describe the mathematics problem solving skills, self-
efficacy of students and the relationship between the problem solving and self
efficacy of the Eighth grade students of Junior High School in Ciamis District.
This study included survey research. The subjects consisted of 389
students of grade VIII SMP Negeri in Ciamis district from 13 schools with high,
medium and low strata categories. The research sample was selected by means of
the stratified proportional random sampling. Data collection is done by test and
questionnaire. The Instruments comprised a diagnostic test consisting of 5 test
items, a student self efficacy questionnaire consisting of 30 items. The instrument
used has been validated by two experts. Data analysis was done with quantitative
and qualitative approach.
The results of the study are as follows 389 students have low criteria in
problem solving ability. Based on polya stage, mathematics problem solving
abilities include; understanding the problem 49,41% is on moderate criteria,
devising a plan 34,33% is on low criteria, carrying out the plan 42,14% is on
moderate criteria and looking back 4,24% is on very low. The average self
efficacy of 389 students is on moderate criteria, 91,17. The relations between the
problem solving and self efficacy of students is on very low criteria because the r
value of 0,104 is in the range from 0.00 to 0.200.

Matematika dan Self Efficacy Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan

masalah matematika, self efficacy siswa dan hubungan antara kemampuan

pemecahan masalah dan self efficacy siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten

Ciamis.

Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian survei. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 389

siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Ciamis yang berasal dari 13 sekolah

dengan kategori strata tinggi, sedang dan rendah. Sampel dalam penelitian ini

ditentukan dengan stratified proporsional random sampling. Pengumpulan data

dilakukan dengan cara tes dan angket. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes

diagnostik yang terdiri dari 5 butir soal dan angket self efficacy siswa yang terdiri

dari 30 item. Instrumen yang digunakan telah divalidasi oleh dua ahli. Analisis

data dilakukan dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 389 siswa yang dijadikan subjek

penelitian memiliki kemampuan pemecahan masalah berada pada kriteria rendah.

Berdasarkan tahap polya, kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa; 49,41% berada

pada kriteria sedang untuk memahami masalah, 34,33% berada pada kriteria

rendah untuk merencanakan pemecahan masalah, 42,14% berada pada tahap


sedang untuk melaksanakan rencana masalah dan 4,24% berada pada kriteria

sangat rendah untuk memeriksa kembali hasil. Rata-rata self efficacy siswa

berada pada kriteria sedang yaitu 91,17. Hubungan kemampuan pemecahan

masalah matematika dan self efficacy siswa termasuk kategori sangat rendah

karena nilai r sebesar 0,104 berada pada rentang 0,00-0,200.
