Subject: Project 3 Reflection

I decided to make my future packet as though I am going into the work field once I have
completed my undergraduate program instead of doing a future packet for graduate school.
Though I am still unsure if this is what I will actually do, I decided that creating a future packet
for my career would better prepare me for the stress of the real world. Either way I feel that that
this project has better prepared me for whichever path I end up taking in the future.
In terms of design and organization I decided to design my cover letter and resume in a
very simple manner with Times new Roman font. I bolded the subjects to make sure that the
resume does not look resume and is easy to read. Sometimes resumes can be difficult to sort
through if there is a lot of information, design, or features. Though I do think that adding design
to a resume can make it stand out, I believe that sometimes added design can make it stand out in
a bad way. Applying to much to the resume can take attention away from what the viewer is
actually looking for, which is credentials.
I organized my resume in order of importance. I felt that education was an important
subject to list first because the job that I will be applying for will require a bachelor degree of
some sort. I then listed employment because this will give the employer an idea of work history.
Work history is important because it can reveal some of the applicant’s interests. This will also
reveal if the person is able to hold a steady job for a long period of time. This can explain to the
employer if this applicant has a good work ethic or not, which will be a big determinant in
whether they get the job. Overall work experience can show they type of person that the
applicant is. If they are working two jobs while in school full time and still involved in clubs;
this will be very impressive. I thin listed achievements because this shows the employer what
you value. Involvement in a non-profit organization can relay to the employer that you are a
caring, selfless person. While showing involvement in a biker gang might give an employer a
different first impression.
In my future I hope to work for a well-established company. When I apply to work for a
place like this I must look very professional and put my best foot forward. When a company
reviews my application I want them to think that I am prepared, professional, and have the
knowledge that I need in order to succeed in the work environment. This project forced me to
think about future plans that I had been avoiding thinking about due to my fear of the real world.
It was important to have this breakthrough and do some planning for my future.
This project has definitely prepared me more for the interviewing process that I will
endure when I complete my degree program. Working on this project has alleviated some of the
anxiety that I feel about the future and it has replaced it with excitement for what is to come in
my future. This project has also brought it to my attention that I need to gain some more
experience to put on my resume. It would put me at an advantage if I could gain some experience
that applies to my marketing degree. This would show employers that I have been thinking about
my future. It will show them that I have been proactive in seeking experience.
