Scope and Sequence: ​Review of quarter notes and beamed eighth notes (Rhythm)

Objectives:
1. With guidance from the teacher, 2​nd​ grade students will write rhythms that correspond
with the different sea creatures.
2. Students will individually select the correct rhythm for the different sea creatures.

Standards Being Addressed:

MU:Cr2.1.2a Demonstrate ​and ​explain ​personal reasons for selecting ​patterns and
ideas for music ​that represent ​expressive intent​.
MU:Pr4.2.2a Demonstrate ​knowledge of music ​concepts ​(such as ​tonality ​and ​meter​)
in music from a variety of ​cultures ​selected for ​performance​.
MU:Pr6.1.2b Perform ​appropriately for the audience and ​purpose​.

Sequence:
Entry Activity
1. T reads the book patting and saying the rhythm of each sea creature.

Activity 1
1. Review how to say and write rhythms. (Ta TiTi)
2. T: “What are some of the sea creatures we met?” T writes them on the board as Ss
answer.
3. T and Ss figure out rhythms for each sea creature.

Activity 2
1. T: “now ​we​ are going to explore the coral reef.”
2. T models how to answer. (Game: clap and say the rhythm then answer, then all the Ss
clap and say the rhythm)
3. Ss play the game.

Assessment:
1. Did students write rhythms that correspond with the different sea creatures? (informal)
2. Did students select the correct rhythm for the different sea creatures? (checklist)
