Schloss Hollenegg for Design presents:

ARCADIA by Sara Ricciardi

Curated by alice Stori Liechtenstein
Produced by 5VIE art+design

Schloß Hollenegg for Design is an international program, based in Austria, initiated in 2015 by Alice Stori
Liechtenstein, to support design research, thinking and critique, while offering a platform to young emerging
designers. From the 4th until 7th the of May 2017, the castle of Hollenegg, in Austria will open its doors to host
a design exhibition, under the title Legacy. Visitors will be able to walk in many of the rooms of the castle,
normally closed to the public, and see the work of nineteen designers next to antique objects and furniture.

To anticipate the Legacy exhibition, reveal something of the magic and beauty of Schloss Hollenegg,
Sara Ricciardi will bring elements of the castle to Milan, creating an immersive installation in via
Cesare Correnti 14. 5VIE art+design has decided to invite and produce Arcadia which will explore the
importance of heritage, in personal and collective terms, looking both at the past and at the future.

Arcadia represents a mythical land, where man finds tranquillity and peace the soul, outside the realm of
civilisation. For Sara Ricciardi visiting the castle of Hollenegg was like finding herself in Arcadia. Over the
centuries, the owners of Hollenegg, have created a place of great beauty and serenity, while building a legacy.

The legacy of a castle is precious and at times also heavy and cumbersome. The intangible inheritance is
received, not something that can be chosen, but it can be transformed and assimilated, before being passed on
further. Sara Ricciardi has captured details and peculiarities of the castle and re-interpreted them to create a
playful and immersive installation where velvety textures, tapestries, layers of silk, embroidery and crystals create
a space in which visitors will be able to interact with a large sphere, symbolic of a compelling legacy.

The project combines craft and technology and was made possible by the enthusiasm and incredible
craftsmanship knowledge of Tappezzerie Druetta and Lunosa.

“Does not the pleasantness of this place carry in itself sufficient reward for any time lost in it, or for any such
danger that might ensue? Do you not see how everything conspires together to make this place a heavenly
dwelling?” Lope de Vega, Arcadia: Prose and Verse
