Figure above shows planar loops of different shapes moving out of or into a region of a magnetic field which is
directed normal to the plane of the loop away from the reader. Determine the direction of induced current in
each loop using Lenz's law.

A. B. (i)no current C. (i)along abcda D. (i)along bcdab

(i)along abcda will flow (ii)no current (ii)along acba
(ii)along bacb (ii)along abca will flow (iii)no current
(iii)along abca (iii)along abca (iii)along abca will flow

Solution: (i) along bcdab

Due to Lenz's , first coil will be opposed to entered the magnetic field , for which in the downward face ,
current should be in clockwise direction. So in the face facing us current should flow in anticlockwise direction

(ii) along acba

Due to Lenz's , second coil will be opposed to move out from the magnetic field , for which in the downward
face , current should be in anticlockwise direction . So in the face facing us current should flow in clockwise
direction

(iii) no change in magnetic flux through the third coil . so no emf will be induced in it
