To Whom It May Concern:

Emily Kingsley was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our four unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient services. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.

Emily Kingsley is living proof that our nursing grads-to-be are not just "cookie-cutter" products of
some high quality nursing education conveyor belt. I mean this in a very good way! Although
Emily is quite capable of critical thinking skills within the box, she is also really adept at solving
nursing problems in a unique way - outside the box. This is why it was such a joy - and a
challenge - to have Emily as my psych-clinical student. Her unique problem solving skills - the
true measure of one's I.Q., E.Q., and creativity - are her special gifts to the nursing profession.
Of course, graduating Cum Laude from one of the better colleges of nursing in the nation - and
one of our more competitive classes - is no mean task either!

Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Emily will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice.

Emily has earned her Academic Tuition Award the old fashion way - through hard work and
determination. Emily's local public health/population health experiences will serve her and her
community well. These days it even is a plus to have a sorority affiliation due to their
opportunities for leadership and philanthropy - in this case. She will be that "world-citizen" type of
nurse leader of the future due to her international exposure to healthcare facilities. I remember
writing on Emily's clinical evaluation form - "Emily is a thinker, a big-picture questioner, maybe
even a future nurse educator". So interview Emily soon because it will be an interesting,
enjoyable, inspiring experience to see what a fine RN candidate is interested in your healthcare
organization.

Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN
