INTENSIVE CARE UNIT TRAINING MODULE

I. Course Title Intensive Care Unit Training Module


II. Course Description The program is comprised of didactic and clinical components
followed by immersion in the clinical setting. This will ensure that
novice nurses are equipped with knowledge on the essentials of being
an Intensive Care Nurse of TriCity Medical Center, Inc.
 Didactic Phase – This is designed to be completed within 5 days. A
final exam is taken after completion.
 Skills Training Phase – It follows successful completion of the
didactic phase and is to be accomplished in 5 days. The nurses
must be able to successfully pass the initial evaluation for the
demonstration of each nursing procedure.
 Clinical Phase – a fourteen-week phase where nurses will be
working under a preceptor for a week, and evaluated for the
capacity to function independently before allowing to work with
minimal to no supervision
III. Course Objective General Objective:
At the end of the course, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff members will
be able to provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill
patients.

Specific Objectives:
At the end of the course, staff members of the Intensive Care Unit
will be able to
a) Discuss the scope of practice of nurses in the Intensive Care
Unit
b) Recognize ethical and legal issues relevant to critically ill
patients
c) Prioritize actions according to the needs of patients utilizing
the nursing process
d) Develop technical skills necessary to function competently as
a professional nurse
