Lesson: ItsLearning Interactive Tools

Subject: Instructional Technology

Grade Level: 9th-12th Teachers

Duration: One hour

Overview: Teachers will learn about the interactive tools featured on the Oconee County Schools’ new
learning management system, ItsLearning.

Learning Objectives:

 Teachers will explore and become familiar with the ItsLearning interactive digital games and tools.
 Teachers will understand the purpose and benefits of using interactive ItsLearning features.
 Teachers will be able to choose features and tools that are appropriate for their classrooms.
 Teachers will have the knowledge and resources to independently utilize one of four key
communication tools on ItsLearning.
 Teachers will have an understanding of the difference between an “Assignment” and a “Test”.
 Teachers will be able to add an interactive activity to their ItsLearning lesson plans.

2. Leader – Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and
to improve teaching and learning. Educators:
a. Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by
engaging with education stakeholders.

digital resources and tools for learning.

4. Collaborator – Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve
practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. Educators:
a. Dedicate planning time to collaborate with colleagues to create authentic learning experiences that
leverage technology.
5. Designer – Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and
accommodate learner variability. Educators:
a. Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent
learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.
b. Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and
resources to maximize active, deep learning.
c. Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments
that engage and support learning.

7. Analyst – Educators understand and use data to drive their instruction and support students in achieving
their learning goals. Educators:
a. Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning
using technology.
b. Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments that
accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.

Procedures:

1. Welcome and thank the teachers who agreed to participate in the workshop. If they have not done so
already, teachers may help themselves to the coffee and donuts provided.
2. Distribute the Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi) Flow Chart and explain the purpose of the
workshop to serve as a means to increase active student engagement through the integration of
ItsLearning interactive tools.
3. Encourage teachers to get logged into the ItsLearning LMS if they have not done so already.
4. Distribute the Workshop Agenda and present an overview of what will be explored and learned.
5. Distribute the ItsLearning Interactive Tools handout and encourage teachers to follow along with the
Google Slides presentation on ItsLearning or the handout provided.
6. Identify the specific, targeted interactive features outlined on slide 2.
7. Take teachers through the ItsLearning Interactive Tools presentation, teachers will be introduced to
interactive games, like crossword puzzles and hangman. Additionally, teachers will learn about
discussion posts, video and text conferences, surveys, and tasks. At the introduction of each new tool
or activity, allow teacher time to investigate.
8. Urge teachers to experiment using the interactive tools.
9. Instruct teachers to navigate to their “sandbox” course pages and create one activity that utilizes the
interactive tools explored.
10. Discuss with teachers with interactive tools they could incorporate into their courses and why. Address
the question: How can these interactive tools support learning for students with diverse learning
needs?
11. In closing, have teachers participate in the post-workshop survey.
Assessments:

 Informal – This will consist of my individual observations of the eight participants in the workshop as
they are investigating and creating their interactive activities.
 Formal – The one hour workshop will be formally evaluated by the feedback provided in the post-
workshop survey located here. This data will be analyzed here.
