Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I will address Universal Design for Learning principles to extend and support the learning experiences for all
students by allowing students to work with a partner to complete a scavenger hunt. When students work
together, they can help each other. In addition, the Kahoot! Quiz is set up like a game which will interest
students and will encourage them to pay attention so they can do good on the game.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.

Students will complete a scavenger hunt with a partner. There will be various clues around the room that will
require students to answer a question where they will either round to the nearest ten or hundred. Once
students complete the scavenger hunt, they will each grab an iPad.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Each student will grab an iPad and log on to Kahoot! by using a unique classroom code, which will be written
on the board by the teacher. The quiz will last 8 minutes, one minute per question.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
1. Round 1,203 to the nearest hundredth
2. Round 523 to the nearest tenth
3. Round 18 to the nearest tenth
4. Round 874 to the nearest hundredth
5. Round 8,245 to the nearest tenth
6. Round 326 to the nearest hundredth
7. Round 20 to the nearest tenth
8. Round 1,506 to the nearest hundredth
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will display the correct answer as students complete each question. Students answers are anonymous, but
we all can see how many students got the correct answer. This gives me as the teacher instructional data.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
Students will return iPads. Students who understand the content will receive an activity to complete as
extension. Students who still struggle with the concept will receive an enrichment activity.
How will the data be used?
Data about which students understand the content and which students don’t will be collected as a result of
this activity. This data will be used by the teacher to create extension and enrichment activities for students.
The teacher will also use data to inform instruction. This activity will count towards a class work grade.
Results from Kahoot! will be shared with students to help them monitor their individual progress. The
anonymous data will be shared during the quiz to show the class how many students are getting the correct
answers.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
In this lesson, I’m making a quiz into a game. Students tend to get excited when playing games and
competing, so I hope they learn to have fun while learning the content. I hope this helps students to learn by
making learning fun and exciting.
Reflective Practice:
The activities I created will impact student learning by making them excited to learn. Students love to
compete and play games. Making their quizzes into games will make students excited to take quizzes which
will make them more willingly to learn the content. To further extend the lesson, I could have students create
their own questions and answers for the summative assessments.
