Abstract

The most common cause of bleeding after childbirth is 50% - 60% due to
the weakness or absence of uterine contractions. The Indonesia Statistics Data
(2008) mentioned that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) or Maternal Mortality
Ratio (MMR) in Indonesia, according to data for 2002-2003 IDHS was
307/100,000 life births because of bleeding. The effort to prevent postpartum
bleeding is by improving uterus contractions through oxytocin massage and
postpartum gymnastics. It can also be practiced after childbirth. The purpose of
this research is to determine the effectiveness of oxytocin massage and
postpartum gymnastics combination to the uterus fundal height in postpartum
women at RSUD Surakarta.
This research was a quasi experimental with posttest only control method
which was performed at Postpartum room of RSUD Surakarta. The sampling
technique was using purposive sampling with 42 respondents consisted of 21
people in control group and 21 people in intervention group. The data were
analyzed by using Mann-Whitney test.
The result of the research showed that H1 and H2 TFU in control group
was normal (76.2%). Meanwhile, in the intervention group, H1 TFU was fast
(66.7%) and H2 TFU was fast (81%). Furthermore, Mann-Whitney test p value
H2 was 0.027 <0.05, so there was an influence of the effectiveness of oxytocin
massage and postpartum gymnastics combination to the uterus fundal height in
postpartum women at RSUD Surakarta.
It is expected that postpartum women understand more about how to
decrease uterus fundal height after giving birth through oxytocin massage and
post-partum gymnastics. Oxytocin massage and postpartum gymnastics are
helpful to fix the uterus fundal height and can become one of the ways to
overcome bleeding.
