SITRA FELLOWSHIPS

On 1st January 2007, Sitra the Finnish Innovation Fund and the Centre for International Mobility CIMO are opening a
new scholarship programme, which focuses on supporting the expert exchanges between Finland and India. The Sitra
Fellowships –programme is funded by Sitra as a part of its India programme, and it is administered by CIMO.

The aim of the programme is to encourage academic mobility between Finland and India, and to
support the internationalisation of research and education by strengthening the cooperation between
Finnish and Indian universities and research institutes.

The Sitra Fellowships are offered for postgraduate studies, research and teaching at universities and
research institutes in Finland. The scholarships are mainly intended for Indian applicants who have
completed a Master’s degree or a doctoral level degree. The grants can also be applied for Master’s
level studies of Indian students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree. However, the scholar-
ship can not be awarded to cover the whole duration of Master’s level studies. In exceptional cases
the grant can be awarded to a Finnish applicant for postgraduate studies, research and teaching at
universities and research institutes in India.

The amount of the scholarship varies according to the recipient’s academic qualifications, from 800
to 2500 euros per month. As a general rule, the monthly allowance is 800 euros for Bachelor’s de-
gree holders, 1800 euros for Master’s degree holders and Doctoral degree students, 2500 euros for
Doctoral degree holders. Also an additional travel grant for 1000 euros is awarded. The scholarship
period may vary from 3 to 12 months.
