Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Minor Injuries

Objectives:
1) Students will be able to discuss minor injuries.
2) Students will be able to identify the different types of minor injuries.

State Standards: “Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease
prevention to enhance health” (NHES, 2007).
Indicator: I-2.1.2 Discuss first aid for minor injuries (e.g., cuts, burns, insect stings, poisons).

Context:
I will be teaching this lesson (Minor Injuries) to teach students the concepts related to health
promotion. In the previous lesson students identified what first aid was. Students will already
know the types of first aid is and what it is used for. In the lesson I am teaching today students
will talk about what they think minor injuries are. Students will give their input about minor
injuries. Students will be prepared to discuss what type of action will happen if someone around
them had a minor injury.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
I will start the lesson off by referring to the previous lesson (first aid). I will give three students
the opportunity to talk about their definition of first aid. Next, I will ask three different students
to tell me what type of injuries that would cause someone to need first aid. We will discuss a
little about injuries. I will pull up a YouTube video about first aids and minor injuries. After the
video I will give instructions for what each group should be doing and then students will break
into their different groups. By now students will know automatically which group they belong in.

Teacher Directed (20 minutes):

The students and I will go back over parts of the YouTube video and we will discuss certain
sections of the video. I will give each student the opportunity to give an example of an injury.
After telling me about that injury, they must explain by is it a minor injury. Students will discuss
among themselves about their minor injuries.

Collaborative (20 minutes):

Each student will be given pencils, flashcards and glue. One student will be able to print pictures
in a file I will have set aside for today lesson. this file will contain pictures of minor injuries and
pictures of things that are not minor injuries. Students will have to separate the different one as a
group. After separating each picture, students will pick two pictures and paste it onto a flashcard.
On the other side of the card students will give a brief paragraph about the minor injury. In the
paragraph students will tell about kind of injury it is and what aid should be taken for this injury.

Independent Digital (20 minutes):

I will set a video up on EdPuzzle and give students the passcode. Students are required to watch
this video about injuries and will be given a few questions at the end to answer. This video will
cover information that was in the YouTube video and more information. After the students
complete the EdPuzzle assignments their grades will be recorded and I will enter them into my
gradebook. From their grade I will determine if I should go back over the lesson, switch the
groups around, if I should continue on to the next lesson, etc.

Closure (15 minutes):

Everyone will come back together as a whole class. I will separate the students into two groups
and give each group an iPad. I will have the students to log onto kahoot and enter the passcode I
give them for the game I set up. Students will not be able to use the flashcards they made before
the will be all from their heads.
Rationale:
(YouTube):
This piece of multimedia will be used to tell students about minor injuries. The video will
talk about the different type of minor injuries and how these injuries can be cared for.
After watching this video students will know everything there is to know about minor
injuries.

(EdPuzzle):
EdPuzzle will test the students’ knowledge about the information they will be given. This
multimedia will also give students the opportunity to see where they stand themselves. If
students aren’t sure about some of the questions on EzPuzzle they know they should go
back and study a little more.
(Kahoot):
This app will have review questions for the upcoming test about minor injuries. Students
will answer minor injury questions among their group members.
