HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 7

8
1 Preparation

HP Command View EVA can be implemented in two ways:

• Server-based management: HP Command View EVA is installed on a management server connected
to the EVA, providing management of multiple HP EVA storage systems. All components of the
software suite (HP Command View EVA, HP Command View EVAPerf, HP Storage System Scripting
Utility, HP SMI-S EVA) are installed. Server-based management is applicable to all EVA models.
• Array-based management: The EVA4400 is shipped with HP Command View EVA pre-installed
on the management module within the controller enclosure. Only one component of the software
suite (HP Command View EVA) is installed. Array-based management is applicable to the EVA4400
only (see “Installing on the management module” on page 20).

NOTE:
If you have an existing EVA4400 running HP Command View 8.0.x and want to move to array-based
management, you can install HP Command View EVA 8.1 or later on the EVA4400.

For descriptions of the software suite components and details about the kit contents, see HP
StorageWorks Command View EVA CD Contents. For an explanation of acronyms, see the Glossary.
You will need the following documents to complete the installation:
• HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Release Notes
• HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference

Server-based management prerequisites

Software suite
Before you install the software suite:
• Read the HP Command View EVA release notes for any installation or post-installation requirements
specific to this release.
• Before installing HP Command View EVA, ensure that a minimum of 1 GB is available on the in-
stallation drive.
• Ensure that your environment includes:
• One or more EVAs

NOTE:
If your environment includes iSCSI devices, see HP StorageWorks EVA iSCSI Connectivity
Quick Start Instructions for Windows for installation instructions, and HP StorageWorks EVA
iSCSI Connectivity User Guide for configuration information.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 9

• A management server running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (see HP StorageWorks
Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference).
• To use the VMware guest operating system, ensure that you have a host running VMware 3.5
or later and that there is a virtual machine connected to the VMware host running a supported
version of Windows (the guest operating system on the virtual machine). See your operating
system documentation for details about setting up a virtual machine. Install HP Command View
EVA on the virtual machine and ensure the virtual machine is configured with virtualized scsi
mode in VMware hypervisor. In virtualized scsi mode, only the Active Path to LUN 0 of a single
controller can be made visible to HP Command View EVA on the virtual machine. HP Command
View EVA does not support VMware 4.0 VMDirectPath (PCI pass-through).
Installing, upgrading, and removing HP Command View EVA on a virtual machine is the same
process as installing HP Command View EVA on a management server (a physical machine).

• Configure the browser settings for any server that will be used to access the HP Command View
EVA user interface. For more information, see “Configuring browser settings” on page 47.
For information about upgrading from previous versions, see
“Upgrading HP Command View EVA software” on page 23.
If you plan to use HP StorageWorks Management Infrastructure software, note the following:
• The software is installed automatically when HP Command View EVA is installed.
• The software is primarily intended for security administrators.
• The software has two interfaces (Configuration and Security), which you can access from HP
Command View EVA or you can browse to each interface directly.
• Accessing or browsing to either of the interfaces requires an Adobe Flash Player plug-in on the
browser.
• You may need to install Management Group digital certificates to gain access to these interfaces.
See the HP StorageWorks Management Infrastructure Administrator Guide for more information.

HP SMI-S EVA

NOTE:
Layered applications requiring HP SMI-S EVA can install the HP SMI-S EVA component on any server
and access the array-based version of HP Command View EVA using the Discoverer tool.

Before you install HP SMI-S EVA:

• HP strongly recommends that you install HP Insight Remote Support software to complete the in-
stallation or upgrade of your product. HP Insight Remote Support ensures maximum system avail-
ability by providing remote monitoring, intelligent event diagnosis, and automatic, secure submission
of hardware event notifications. The software is available in two options—HP Insight Remote
Support Standard (for small to medium environments) and HP Insight Remote Support Advanced
(for large environments).
For more information or to download the software for free, go to Software Depot:
http://www.software.hp.com
Select Internet ready and networking and then look for Insight Remote Support.
• HP SMI-S EVA can be installed separately and does not need to be on the same management
server as HP Command View EVA. However, if HP SMI-S EVA is installed on the same server,
ensure that you are logged in to the management server as a local user with local administrative
privileges (the user must be a member of the local Administrators group).

10 Preparation
• Install SLP, which enables you to receive information about applications that are registered with
it. For example, when CIMOM is registered with SLP, you can receive information about CIMOM,
such as the CIMOM URL and attributes.
• You can install HP Command View EVA and HP SMI-S EVA on the same server as HP StorageWorks
Command View XP Advanced Edition Software.

Management server types

When you are using server-based management, you can install the software on the following servers:
• General-purpose server—A server other than the HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance
that runs customer applications, such as file and print services
• Dedicated management server—A Windows host that is intended solely for HP storage software,
such as HP OpenView Storage Node Manager, HP OpenView Storage Area add-on software
modules, or HP StorageWorks EVA array-integrated software
• HP X3000 Network Storage Gateways—A server similar to the general-purpose server, used to
manage EVAs in the SAN as well as traditional NAS-based applications
For hardware and software specifications, see HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility
Reference.

Setting credentials

NOTE:
The information in this section applies only to HP Command View EVA server-based management.
For array-based management, there is one admin and one user account. The default user name for
the admin account is admin; for the user account, it is user. By default for both accounts, there is no
password. See the web-based operator control panel user guide for information about changing
account information.

The existence of groups and users during software installation ensures:

• Authentication of users by login to the underlying operating system
• Assignment of predefined privileges to users

NOTE:
In this section, unless a specific reference is made to the HP Storage Users group, user refers to anyone
who can access HP Command View EVA.

Management server
Groups are created automatically during the installation process. Alternatively, you can create them
manually before initiating the software installation. The manual process for creating groups applies
only if the management server is part of a domain or domain controller. This section describes the
manual procedure.
To create groups and users on the management server:

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 11

NOTE:
In HP Command View EVA 8.0 or later, HP Command View EVA, HP SMI-S EVA, HP Command
View EVAPerf and HP Replication Solutions Manager use the same groups.

1. Use the Windows operating system feature to create the following groups:
• HP Storage Admins
• HP Storage Users

IMPORTANT:
To ensure successful authorization of groups, you must create the group names exactly as
described in this step. See your Windows documentation for instructions on creating users.

These groups are created only for local authentication. If the management server is part of a
domain or domain controller, these group names can be modified during installation. The
administrator should create them manually.
These groups have predefined privileges assigned to them. Anyone in the HP Storage Admins
group can view and perform all tasks. Anyone in the HP Storage Users group can only view
information.
2. Create the users that you will assign to these groups. Enter a name and password for the user
and select a group for the user.

NOTE:
Ensure that the User must change password at next logon option is not selected
when creating users.

For information on configuring HP Command View EVA credentials, see the HP StorageWorks
Management Infrastructure Administrator Guide, Chapter 2, Installing XF security certificates.

Ensuring successful authorization

Windows accounts used for authentication must have the Access the computer from the
network permission enabled. By default, this permission is granted to Everyone, but some systems
have a more restrictive setting. With these systems, Everyone is removed and permission is enabled
for application-specific groups. In this case, you cannot authenticate with valid credentials.
To ensure successful authentication:
1. Access the Local Security Policy feature on the Windows operating system.
The Local Security Settings window opens.
2. Select Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.
3. Double-click the Access this computer from the network policy in the right content pane.
4. Click Add User or Group.
5. Add the users you have created to this permission. See your operating system documentation for
further instructions.

12 Preparation
Array-based management prerequisites
Before you install the software on the management module:
• Read the HP Command View EVA release notes for any installation or post-installation requirements
specific to the latest release.
• Ensure your environment includes:
• An EVA4400
• A server, running any operating system, that you can connect to the EVA4400
• Configure the browser settings for any server that will be used to access the HP Command View
EVA user interface. For more information, see “Configuring browser settings” on page 47.

information.

Removing HP SMI-S EVA

When removing the HP SMI-S EVA Provider, the following actions occur:
1. The HP SMI-S EVA Provider installer checks for the number of HP SMI-S providers registered,
which is the component count.
2. During HP SMI-S EVA component removal:
• If the HP SMI-S CIMOM component count is greater than one, the count is reduced by one;
if the HP SMI-S CIMOM component count equals one, the component is removed completely.
• If the HP SMI-S EVA Provider component count is greater than one, the count is reduced by
one; if the HP SMI-S EVA Provider component count equals one, the component is removed
completely.

Configuring HP SMI-S EVA after installation

By default the -Xmx value in the CxwsCimomService.cfg file is set to 1024m, but this may not
always be the correct value.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 33

To determine the correct value for -Xmx, complete the following steps immediately after installing the
software suite.

CAUTION:
HP recommends that you exercise caution in modifying these parameters.

To modify these parameters to adjust memory usage or other JVM options, follow these steps:
1. Check the default parameters in the CxwsCimomService.cfg file. This file contains the Java
options (in the JAVA_OPTIONS section) that are used by CIMOM and is located at
<install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\CXWSCimom\config\
CxwsCimomService.cfg,
The default parameters in the CxwsCimomService.cfg file are:
• -Xms128m (Minimum Heap Memory Usage in mb)
• -Xmx1024m (Maximum Heap Memory Usage in mb)
2. On the command line, enter <install drive>:\\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\
SMI-S\CXWSCimom\jre\bin\java -Xmx1024m -version. If the Java version number is
returned, the default value of 1024m for -Xmx is correct. If the Java version number is not re-
turned, retry the command with lower values until a value returns the Java version.
3. Add the value that returned the Java version as the -Xmx value in the CxwsCimomService.cfg
file located in the <install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\CX-
WSCimom\ directory.
4. HP recommends that you verify the following files are available:
• <install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\EVAProvider\
lib\hpEVA.jar
• <install drive>:\\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\EVAProvider\
lib\SALEva.jar

Configuring HP SMI-S EVA to discover HP Command View

EVA arrays
HP SMI-S EVA discovers arrays managed by both array-based and server-based management
implementations of HP Command View EVA. To achieve this, a Java-based CLI Discoverer tool is
packaged with HP SMI-S EVA.

34 HP SMI-S EVA
Use the Discoverer tool to:
• Add or remove an array-based or server-based IP address to HP SMI-S.
• Perform a custom installation of HP SMI-S EVA only. If you plan to install HP Command View EVA
later, you must still add a localhost address to complete the HP SMI-S EVA installation.
• View existing array-based or server-based IP addresses from HP SMI-S EVA.
The Discoverer tool allows these tasks to be performed in both interactive and non-interactive modes.
See “Using Discoverer modes” on page 36 for more information.

Importing Single Sign-on trust certificates with the Discoverer tool

To add a Single Sign-on certificate with the Discoverer tool:
1. Enter the management server credentials.
2. Enter the management server IP address.
The Single Sign-on trust certificate imports automatically after the management server IP address is
added into the Discoverer tool.
If HP SMI-S EVA cannot connect to the management server IP address, the Discoverer tool adds the
IP address to HP SMI-S EVA and the following warning message is displayed:
WARNING: IP is added into SMIS successfully but SSO certificate import to CV has failed.

Please import the certificate manually.

If this message is displayed, import the Single Sign-on trust certificate manually to ensure communication
between HP SMI-S EVA and HP Command View EVA works.

Manually importing a Single Sign-on trust certificate

To manually import a Single Sign-on trust certificate:
1. Launch HP Command View EVA from the server on which HP SMI-S EVA is installed.
2. Navigate to Server Options > Other application trust relationships.
3. Locate the Single Sign-on Trust Certificate in the following directory:
<install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\EVAProvider\config\
HPSMISSSO.cert

HP SMI-S EVA caching and performance

Applications using HP SMI-S EVA do not have access to Enterprise Virtual Array details immediately
after adding the management server IP address to the Discoverer tool because of initial cache building.
The data completion time depends on the number of arrays and objects being discovered. The status
of cache building is retrieved using the GetArrayRefreshStatus tool included with HP SMI-S
EVA. For that reason, adding or removing the IP address too frequently is not recommended. Important
points to note:
• The Discoverer tool and the HP SMI-S EVA server do not recognize IP addresses that cannot be
reached on the network.
• As soon as an IP address is added to HP SMI-S EVA, it will try to connect to HP Command View
EVA. If the IP address cannot be reached or if HP SMI-S EVA cannot find a management server
to communicate with, HP SMI-S EVA will retry three times every 30 minutes to connect to the IP
address.
• Adding unreachable or invalid IP addresses to the Discoverer tool has a performance impact on
HP SMI-S EVA.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 35

Using the Discoverer tool modes
This section describes how to use the Discoverer tool in interactive and non-interactive modes.

Using the Discoverer tool in interactive mode.

1. Enter the server (where HP SMI-S EVA is installed) details in the following format:
http://IP:SMIS HTTP port number
For example:

NOTE:
Press Enter to allow the Discoverer tool to connect to HP SMI-S EVA running on local host port
number 5988.

2. Enter your HP SMI-S EVA user name and password credentials.

NOTE:
The password is masked and nothing will be displayed as you enter it.

Once connected to HP SMI-S EVA, the following options are displayed:

1. Add a CV IP:
2. Remove a CV IP:
3. Get the list of CV IPs:
0. Exit
In the following example output, 1. Add a CV IP is selected:

Please enter your choice :1

Enter the IP address of CommandView :

Enter the CommandView username :

Enter the CommandView password :

Use the following syntax when using the Discoverer tool in non-interactive mode:
Usage: Usage: -h hostname-uri -u username -p password [-a ipaddress
-cvusername cvusername -cvpassword cvpassword [-r ipaddress] [-l]
Example commands include:
• To add an IP address:
Discoverer -h http://localhost:5988 The -u username -p password -a
paddress -cvuseranme CV username -cvpassword cvpassword

36 HP SMI-S EVA
• To remove an IP address:
Discoverer -h http://localhost:5988 -u username -p password -r ipaddress
• To remove an IP address in sequence with the previous command:
Discoverer -h http://localhost:5988 -u username -p password –l

Managing users in HP SMI-S EVA

By default all HP Command View EVA users will be HP SMI-S EVA users. See “Creating users on
Windows” on page 22 for more information.

CIM client connection to the management server

If you are using SSL mode, the SSL certificate on the management server must be made available on
the HP SMI-S EVA client to establish a CIM connection with the management server. This is required
only if your client application requires a secure connection over SSL and does not use a trust-all
certificate manager.
This certificate is available in client.pem and is converted as a trust file with the name
hpSMIS.trust. All certificates mentioned are located in the following directory:
<install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\CXWSCimom

NOTE:
The following steps apply only if your client application requires a secure connection over SSL and
does not use a trust-all certificate manager. By default, HP Storage Essentials and HP Systems Insight
Manager use a trust-all certificate manager, but can be reconfigured to authenticate each connection
against certificates in their truststore.

For Java-based clients:

1. Copy the hpSMIS.trust file located at <install drive>:\Program Files\
Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\CXWSCimom\ to the CIM client machine.
2. On the CIM client machine, specify the following options for connecting to the HP SMI-S EVA
server using SSL mode:
java -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStoreType=jks -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=
hpSMIS.trust
3. Change the classpath variable to include the directory for the hpSMIS.trust file.

The non Java-based clients must use client.pem to connect to the management server.

Importing HP SIM SSL certificate for indication delivery

To deliver indications to an HP SIM central management server that is subscribed for indication delivery
in the CIMOM:
1. Copy the certificate from the HP SIM central management server to the system where the CIMOM
is installed.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 37

6 Browser and array configuration setup

Configuring browser settings

HP Command View EVA requires certain browser settings. This section describes the recommended
browser settings for Internet Explorer and Mozilla. Configure the browser as described in this section;
otherwise, the HP Command View EVA user interface will not work properly.

Internet Explorer settings

For server-based management, HP recommends that you configure the management server with the
security settings appropriate for your environment, and browse to the management server from a
client machine using Internet Explorer settings appropriate for HP Command View EVA.
In Windows environments, you may not be able to achieve the proper Internet Explorer settings on a
management server with Microsoft's IE Enhanced Security Configuration (IEESC) or other policy-enforced
preconfigured settings. If you are browsing from an IEESC-configured management server, you must
remove IEESC and manually configure Internet Explorer with the required HP Command View EVA
browser settings.
For array-based management, ensure that you configure the server you are using to access HP
Command View EVA with the browser settings noted in this section.
Table 8 describes the browser settings for Internet Explorer. The settings are not all-inclusive; only
those settings that apply to HP Command View EVA are listed. If a setting appears in bold, you must
configure the setting as described.

Mozilla browser settings

Table 9 describes the browser settings for Mozilla. The settings are not all-inclusive; only those settings
that apply to HP Command View EVA are listed. If a setting appears in bold, you must configure the
setting as described.
The recommended settings normally enable the browser to display HP Command View EVA fonts and
page layouts correctly. Many UNIX environments, however, do not handle fonts and page layouts

consistently, so you may want to make adjustments to obtain the most readable HP Command View
EVA page layouts. For example, setting your browser for large fonts may cause the HP Command
View EVA property tables to appear crowded and unreadable. If this occurs, reduce the font size for
your browser.

Refreshing the browser

After you upgrade HP Command View EVA, refresh the browser:
• In Internet Explorer, press Ctrl+F5.
• In Mozilla, press Shift and click Reload simultaneously.

Completing the array configuration

To complete array configuration:
• Browse to HP Command View EVA.
• Verify the communication path between the management server and the array.
• Configure array access.
• Initialize the array.
• Obtain a license key .

Verifying the communication path

To verify the communication path to the array, select an array in the Navigation pane. If the array
(storage system) icon is green, communication is good and you can continue with the array
configuration. You cannot configure the array when the icon is gray, which indicates a communication
problem. A yellow triangle on the array icon indicates a condition that requires attention, such as a
communication problem, a malfunctioning blower, or a cache battery problem. A red x on the array
icon indicates a serious problem, such as a communication failure. To resolve the communication
failure, see Chapter 7 on page 57. For a list and description of HP Command View EVA icons, see
the online help.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 51

Configuring array access

NOTE:
This step only applies for server-based management. If you are using array-based management, you
have direct access to the array and the storage system password will be ignored.

A password is an optional security feature that allows you to access specified arrays through an HP
Command View EVA session. If you decide to protect your storage system with management passwords,
the password you enter in HP Command View EVA must match the password given to the array. You
must set the array password first.
If you have already set a password on the array, you must then set the same password in HP Command
View EVA in order to manage that array. If the array password has not been set, you can use the
Enable function to create the password. However, the password is not enabled until you enter it on
the array.
The array password must meet the following requirements:
• Can be 8–16 characters
• Can include letters A–Z in upper or lower case
• Can include numerals 0–9
• Can include the following characters: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ ] ^ _ ` { | }
• Cannot include spaces or the following characters: ~ \
To enable a password on a server-based management array:
1. Click Server Options in the Session pane.
The Management Server Options window opens.
2. Select Storage system password access.
The Storage System Password Access window opens.
3. Click Enable.
The Enable Password Access to a Storage System window opens.
4. Select the array to enable in the Storage System World Wide Node Name List box. Only world
wide node names that do not have an enabled password are displayed.
5. Enter the array password in the Password box. Enter the password again in the Confirm Password
box.

NOTE:
This password must match the one set for the array.

6. Click Enable Password.

The Enable password access dialog box opens.
7. Click OK.
A status window opens, indicating success or failure.
8. Click OK to return to the Storage System Password Access window.

52 Browser and array configuration setup

To enable a password on a array-based management configuration:

IMPORTANT:
Although you use the WOCP to configure the storage array password (or Management Server
Password as it is called in the WOCP), the password only affects external management applications
such as HP Command View EVA server-based management. It has no effect on HP Command View
EVA array-based management. HP Command View EVA array-based management does not use a
password.

1. Click Launch OCP on the Management Module Properties page to start the WOCP:
2. To change the storage system password, select Configure Administrator login options.
3. Under Management Server Password, enter the new password in the Password box.
4. Enter the password again in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click Set Password.

Initializing the array

When you install an array, it appears as an uninitialized storage system. Initializing an array makes
it ready for use, binds the controllers as an operational pair (for models other than the HP EVA4400),
and establishes preliminary data structures on the array. Initializing also sets up the first disk group,
which is called the default disk group.

NOTE:
When initializing an array, ensure that you are using a local instance of HP Command View EVA.
The management server running HP Command View EVA should be connected to the array through
a direct connection or Fibre Channel switches. Do not use an FCIP gateway between the management
server and the array.

If you are upgrading an existing version of HP Command View EVA, the arrays remain initialized
and any other existing components are retained.

NOTE:
When you initialize (or reinitialize) an array, you must force a discovery cycle to restore the
communication path. If the array is still not visible, restart the HP Command View EVA service on any
standby management servers. Run rediscovery, check the online help or see the HP StorageWorks
Command View EVA User Guide for more information.

When initializing an array, you must enter a name for the array.
You can also perform the following optional tasks:
• Enter the number of disks to be included in the default disk group.
• Set the drive type.
• Set the array date and time.
• Enter a console LUN ID.
• Select a disk failure protection level.

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 53

• Enter comments.
See the online help for instructions for completing these tasks.

Licensing

NOTE:
Array-based management users will have read-only access to HP Continuous Access EVA features.
Server-based management is required for full HP Continuous Access EVA functionality.

Once installation is complete, you must have access to a license key to use all the features in HP
Command View EVA. The License Entitlement Certificate for the product provides instructions on how
to obtain a license key. A temporary, instant-on license key is available within HP Command View
EVA so that you can immediately start using all of its features. The instant-on license is not enabled
by default for HP Command View EVA array-based management. The instant-on license is enabled
by default when the HP Command View EVA software suite is installed on the management server
(server-based management). The instant-on license is valid for all arrays managed by an HP Command
View EVA server, and it enables all features (HP Command View EVA, HP Business Copy EVA, and
HP Continuous Access EVA) with unlimited capacity for 60 days from first use. Upon expiration of
the instant-on license key, the features are disabled. You must obtain a permanent license key to
continue to use the features.
Available license keys include:
• HP Command View EVA General license key – required to manage drives and disk groups
• HP Business Copy EVA license key – activates snapshot, snapclone, and mirrorclone features.
• HP Continuous Access EVA license key – activates the data replication feature
• HP Command View EVA upgrade license – required for any of the following:
• Adding licensed capacity
• Upgrading to a different array type
• HP Command View EVA Data Migration license – required to migrate data to a different array
When a permanent license is installed, it immediately takes effect for the array. The supported capacity
for the array is determined by the specific license that is installed. If you remove the permanent license
during the instant-on license validity period, the instant-on characteristics (all features and unlimited
capacity) are reinstated for the remainder of the 60–day evaluation period. Model upgrade and
extended evaluation licenses are also available.
License keys can be generated to cover the total raw capacity of each array. You can enter the license
key before or after initializing the array. License keys are specific to an array and are not transferable.
For information on licensing and obtaining keys, see the HP License Key Delivery Service at
https://webware.hp.com/Welcome.asp

Failed connection warning for uncabled controller host ports
If a host port is uncabled, the user interface displays an error. Specifically, the Connection state box
on the Host Ports tab of the Controller Properties page displays Connection failed for an uncabled
host port.
This situation causes a persistent Attention indication in the Navigation pane. To prevent this, pull the
GBICs from uncabled ports on the controller. If the system is already initialized, removing the GBICs
will generate an associated one-time controller event. See HP StorageWorks Command View EVA
User Guide for more information about the user interface and events.

Insufficient privileges prevents login

Logon to HP Command View EVA may require a fully qualified user name
When logging on to HP Command View EVA on a machine that is not an authenticator for the HP
StorageWorks Management Group of which the machine is a member, you may need to use a fully
qualified user name; for example, user@ossecuritydomain.
• This is necessary if you used HP StorageWorks Management Infrastructure Security software to
modify the default security configuration for HP Command View EVA.
• A machine is a management server running server-based HP Command View EVA or an EVA
management module running array-based HP Command View EVA.
See the HP StorageWorks Management Infrastructure Administrator Guide for more information
regarding HP StorageWorks Management Groups.

3. Click the Certificate Error box.
A window for the certificate opens.
4. Click View Certificates.
A Properties pane for the certificate opens.
5. Record the value entered in the Issued By: box. This is the certificatestring. You will need
to enter and match it with the Trusted Sites value in step 7
6. Click Tools > Internet Options > Security and click Trusted Sites.
7. Click Sites. In the certificatestring field, enter https://certificatestring certific-
atestring, where certificate string is the value that you recorded from the Issued By: box in
step 5, in the Add this website to the Zone box.
8. Click Add, and continue to click OK until you exit out of the windows and close Internet Explorer.
9. Reopen Internet Explorer and browse to HP Command View EVA.
The certificate error prompt should no longer display.

NOTE:
To eliminate the certificate error in all clients, you must complete this process on every browser
from which you access HP Command View EVA. In addition, you must always browse to the
server using the certificate string form. If you browse to the server's IP address, the certificate
error will likely still display.

Windows service does not recognize a Windows environment variable

During the autopass installation, an environment path variable is created by the Autopass installer.
To call the Autopass exposed APIs, HP Command View EVA tries to read the location of path variable
during the installation. The Windows service does not recognize this change on Windows 2000 and
Windows 2003 systems until the system is restarted. While installing HP StorageWorks Command
View EVA software, the following error message appears:
The application has failed to start because OvLicV5Capi_VC8.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.
When you try to add the DC management license, the following error message is displayed:
LicenseServer; nested exception is:
com.hp.storage.common.LicenseServerException: Method Not Found. Either
Library[DLL] or API is not found
Ensure that Windows 2003 systems are installed with Windows hotfix KB887693 to avoid this
situation. To locate Windows hotfix KB887693, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887693/.

HP SMI-S EVA
This section provides troubleshooting information about installing and configuring HP SMI-S EVA. This
section does not apply to array-based management.

Client connection for EVA Provider

The EVA Provider supports up to 32 client connections. When possible, schedule the use of Provider
applications so that usage does not overlap.

60 Troubleshooting
Creating a pool results in disk groups created with a size different from requested
size
When you create a pool of disks through HP SMI-S EVA, the size of the total created disk groups is
less than requested. For example, if you create a pool of 300 GB, the size of the pool when created
is approximately 253 GB. When creating a pool of near-online disks with the minimum size possible,
the actual size of the pool might be more than the specified size.

HP SIM data collection

When running HP SIM data collection, the following message may be displayed:
This system doesn't have a SMIS - CIMOM installed
If this message is displayed, run the getarrayrefreshstatus.bat file from the CIMOM local
directory on the HP Command View EVA management server. Check the refresh status of the arrays
and then try to run the HP SIM data collection again.

HP SMI-S EVA fails to retrieve data

If HP SMI-S EVA fails to retrieve data, determine if:
• The array managed by the management server is active or passive. If the array is passive, access
to the array is limited; data is populated only for the enumerate instance of the StorageSystem
call.
• The HP Command View EVA and the HP StorageWorks SMI-S CIM Object Manager services are
running on the server:
Select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services window.
If either service is not running, select the service and click Start.
• The user name and password are correct. If the user name and password do not match the inform-
ation entered when the account was created, a CIM_ERR_ACCESS_DENIED message appears.
This error can also appear when the CFG file is missing in the CIMOM install path. See the Au-
thentication section to correct.
• Check whether the trust certificate between HP SMI-S EVA and HP Command View EVA has been
correctly imported:
1. Select Server Options in the HP Command View EVA GUI (top right).
2. Select Other application trust relationships (check box).
If you are performing a new installation, check that you have a trust certificate called
HPEVA_SMIS_Provider.
Otherwise, verify that the certificate location is as follows:
<install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\EVAProvider\
config\HPSMISSSO.cert
3. If the certificate is not present, HP SMI-S EVA and HP Command View EVA cannot
communicate, and you must install the HPSMISSSO.cert certificate.
4. To install the certificate, select Install Certificate and specify the certificate name and location.
You can find the HPSMISSSO.cert certificate in the following directory:
<install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\EVAProvider\
config\

HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Installation Guide 61

• Enterprise Virtual Array details are not available through HP SMI-S EVA when the initial cache
build is in process. The cache build occurs:
• After starting the HP SMI-S EVA service.
• After restarting the HP SMI-S EVA service.
• After the HP Command View EVA server IP address is added to HP SMI-S EVA.

HP SMI-S EVA loses communication with array-based management system after

management module software is upgraded
When upgrading an array-based management module, the HP SMI-S EVA trust certificates between
HP Command View EVA and HP SMI-S EVA are not maintained. The trust relationship must be
re-established using the Discoverer tool after the management module has been upgraded.

HP SMI-S EVA service does not start

In the Services window, verify that the HP StorageWorks SMI-S CIM Object Manager service is
running. If it is not running, select the service, and then click Start. If, after performing this step, the
service does not start, check for port conflicts and reconfigure ports if necessary.

HP SMI-S EVA uses best management path to discover arrays

When two instances of HP Command View EVA that manage the same array are discovered using
the Discoverer tool, the passive instance of the array is not discovered. Both instances of the array
(active and passive) should be listed in HP SMI-S EVA.
When an array has been managed by HP Command View EVA in IP1 and the same array has been
managed passively by another instance of HP Command View EVA in IP2, and if both the IPs are
discovered in SMI-S EVA storage abstraction layer (SAL), the array in the active management path is
always discovered by SAL. SAL uses the best management path to communicate with the array.

HP SMI-S EVA behavior when DR groups are suspended

When replication between DR groups is suspended, instant restore of a demand-allocated or fully
allocated snapshot is not supported through HP SMI-S EVA.

IPv6 enabled on a Windows system

When IPv6 is enabled and IPv4 is disabled on a Windows system, choose one of the following:
• Add a line:
1. Add the following line in the <install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\
SMI-S\CXWSCimom\config\cxws.properties file.
java.net.preferIPv6Addresses=true
2. Restart the HP SMI-S CIMOM service.
3. Using the Discoverer tool, manually remove the IPv4 address if shown, and add the IPv6 ad-
dress.
• Append a flag:
1. Append a flag —Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=true in <install drive>:\
Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\CXWSCimom\config\CxwsCimomSer-
vice.cfg for the JAVA_OPTIONS property.

62 Troubleshooting
2. Restart the HP SMI-S CIMOM service.
3. Using the Discoverer tool, manually remove the IPv4 address if shown, and add the IPv6 ad-
dress.

Names or device IDs with spaces

Do not include a space before or after the host name, view name, or device ID of
ViewProtocolController. Otherwise, the getinstance and EnumerateInstance queries
will fail.

Removing HP SMI-S EVA does not remove CIMOM-related folders

When you remove HP SMI-S EVA, files and folders related to CIMOM are not removed. Complete
the following steps to remove the related files:
1. Navigate to the <install drive>:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\SMI-S\
CXWSCimom\config directory.
2. Delete the SMI-S\CXWSCimom\config folder. This deletes all the CIMOM associated files and
ensures that the CIMOM functions correctly when reinstalled.
3. Reboot the server.

Ungrouping disks from a disk group is not supported

When you use CreateOrModifyStoragePool to remove disks from a storage pool, a return code
of 0 is received. This return code implies that the storage pool has been dissolved and the disks have
been ungrouped; however, the disks remain grouped. HP recommends that you not remove disks
from a storage pool using CreateOrModifyStoragePool. No other method is available to remove
disks from a storage pool.
