3-2 Planning for Instruction

The candidate plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by

drawing upon knowledge of content areas, technology, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and

pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

Lesson planning, to me, is one of the most integral parts of teaching. Knowing what to

teach and how to engage your students is the first step to student success. In music, using all of

its forms can take students to the next level. Music technology is becoming increasingly popular

as genres like EDM take the music scene by force. Students that are interested in how to produce

and create music using technology, such as Garage Band, should have the tools to do so.

Students should be taught to take music and create something amazing. They should be taught to

incorporate their bodies in how they perceive music through dance. They should be taught the

physics of sound and the theory of how music is put together. For students to fully understand

the broad scope of music, they first have to understand music past the black and white on the

page. They have to take what they experience in their everyday lives, and apply it directly to the

function of music.
