Teen Challenge Tasmania specialises in the alcohol and other
drugs sector in treatment interventions, and prevention
through education. Our mission is to meet the needs
of the whole person to help them to be physically well,
socially adjusted, mentally sound, emotionally balanced and
spiritually alive.
Teen Challenge is a faith based global organisation with over
1400 centres operating in 128 countries. In 1971
Teen Challenge commenced in Queensland, and today
we operate in each state of Australia. Although united by
purpose, we operate independently of each other. We are
Not for Profit, Specialist Drug and Alcohol Prevention and
Rehabilitation organisations.
Our programs include men and women residential
rehabilitation centres, youth and family mentoring, Day
AOD programs, family support and #NotEvenOnce®
demand reduction projects (upstream intervention).
In Tasmania, our flagship #NotEvenOnce® alcohol and
other drug prevention and early intervention program is
delivered to primary and high school students, parents,
teachers, sporting clubs, communities and workplaces. It
provides information, social skills, personal resilience, and
understanding to assist young people and communities to
avoid the risks of substance abuse.
Our Connections Mentoring Program is a prevention and
early intervention program that matches volunteer adult
mentors with at risk young people. The Program assists young
people and their families who may be struggling with their
physical or mental health, socially or educationally.
Teen Challenge Tasmania is currently working towards
establishing an alcohol and other drug residential
rehabilitation facility, Home of Hope for Women
and Children.

 WELCOME TO AGFEST 2018

Welcome to Agfest 2018. It is with great pleasure that
I am addressing you as Agfest Chairman for the 36th
Agfest. Myself, along with the whole team are excited to
bring you another fantastic Agfest, a great showcase for
Tasmania’s rural industries.
Agfest remains Tasmania’s premier rural event, and is
among the biggest and most successful field days in the
country. It is the only field day to be run by a volunteer
committee of Rural Youth Volunteers aged 15-30.
With over 701 exhibitors accepted this year and
attendance numbers increasing, Agfest continues to go
from strength to strength. We have made a number of
considerable upgrades to the site throughout the year.
This includes the new road way leading to and from the
Eastern Gate to our Equine Expo, upgrading power
within Quercus Park, the introduction of the Quercus
Park United Kennel Club, who will be showcasing their
canines throughout the event and the introduction of
Junior Cattle Handling in Beef Expo.
All Tasmanians have touch points with agriculture,
Agfest is not only an opportunity to celebrate
agriculture and the people who make it happen, it is
also an opportunity to educate and learn from
industry leaders.
Personally, Agfest has been a big part of my life over the
past seven years. I have held many different roles on the
committee, including Central Arena, Safety, Assistant
Operations, Security and Assistant Waste Coordinator.
As well as my involvement in Agfest, I have also held
multiple roles on different committees within Rural
Youth Tasmania. From club level in Kingborough Huon
Rural Youth or through roles on Rural Youth State
Council (now Rural Youth Board), all of these roles
have provided me with a really strong foundation to be
able to take on and build from the previous Chairmen
and Committees.
Ever since my first Agfest, it has been an ambition of
mine to become Chairman, I am proud to lead the team
bringing you Agfest 2018. An event
that brings all Tasmanians together.

the great organisation behind Agfest? Then come on down to site
M88 and experience what we have to offer.
Have a chat to members, past and present, and check out our
displays and activities to learn about all the amazing opportunities
on offer, including events we hold throughout the year, training and
professional development opportunities for members and even how
members are involved in the running of Rural Youth and Agfest.
We do it all and so can you. You can also learn about the history of
the organisation and purchase some fantastic merchandise.
If you’re aged 15-30, for only $33 per year you can be a part of
a great network of passionate young people making a difference
in Tasmania.

The Ag ArtwearTM competition highlights the amazing talent of
young people in Tasmania. Students from around the state create
pieces of clothing using only materials/objects found on the farm
and the results are fantastic!

TASSIE’S AGFEST BOAT SHOW

Seventh Avenue from Main Street to North Street
In 2018 Marine and Safety Tasmania is sponsoring the marine
area that will be showcasing new vessel releases, the latest in
engine technology, life jacket information and the popular
Fishcare site. All water craft users are catered for with kayaks,
SUP’s and pot haulers also displayed. Talk to experts in PWC,
marine radio and inland fisheries all at Tassie’s Agfest Boat Show.

UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA
Site 409 Fourth Avenue
The University of Tasmania is proudly
partnering again with Agfest in 2018.
There will be many hands on learning activities,
interactive displays, demonstrations and opportunities
to talk about future study options. Engage with our
Health Science students at the Health Stop Tent,
explore underwater environments through virtual reality
with the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies, try
your skills on the Australian Maritime College sailing
simulator and visit the giant brain and learn more about
dementia from the Wicking Dementia Research and
Education Centre.
You will also find staff and students from our University
College on site this year who are eager to talk to you.
The University College is responsible for delivering a
range of shorter university courses called Associate
Degrees. Some of the exciting specialisations include
cyber security, local leadership, fermentation and
robotics and automation. These new degrees offer a
blend of theory and practice, and offer pathways to
employment or further study.
ABC LOCAL RADIO
Site M08 Main Street
Your favourite ABC Radio programs are in a new location
for Agfest 2018. The ABC Radio team return to Agfest
in 2018, hosting a bunch of your favourite programs and
special guests LIVE!
ABC Radio Tasmania together with ABC Rural keep
Tasmania in touch with all the news and stories from Agfest.
ABC Rural’s Country Hour team of Tony Briscoe and
Margot Kelly will be roaming Agfest in search of stories
and characters to profile on the Country Hour from
midday to 1pm on both Thursday and Friday. Margot will
also be showcasing Agfest on ABC Northern Tasmania’s
rural report each morning at 6.15am.
Statewide Mornings with Leon Compton will broadcast
live from the event on Friday, between 8.30-11am.
Come and say hello and grab a cuppa. Leon will also stick
around for Saturday, sharing all the latest with Chris
Wisbey on Weekends.

Last but not least our Journalism and Media students
will also be working around the clock to produce an
online newsfeed reporting on all the goings on at Agfest
over the 3 days.
Agfest is a fantastic opportunity for the University to
showcase its programs, research and students. We are
very proud of our achievements and look forward to
sharing them with you all. See you there.
Saturday is also the day that you can stop by and meet
gardening guru and green-thumb royalty, Peter Cundall,
as he takes all your gardening talkback questions in
person! Then you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a
gardening workshop with Gardening Australia presenter
Tino Carnevale!

CATTLE HANDLING
Behind the TJM Tasmania Central Arena
between Fourth and Fifth Avenues
New to 2018 the Junior Cattle Handlers from
agricultural schools around the state showcasing their
animals and the art of cattle handling. See the Central
Arena Timetable for showing times. The Beef Expo
also offers breed exhibits of Longhorns and Dexter
cattle and will also include exhibits from Wastenot
Stockfeeders, Datamars Zee Tag, RPM Australia-
Pacific and Field Capacity Australia.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS
Eastern end of Main Street, behind Eleventh Avenue
See 80 of the best Tasmanian sheep dogs in action
guided by their owners, as they encourage a small
number of sheep to move in, through and over a
number of typical farm obstacles like ramps, gates and
sheep pens, all under the watchful eye of the judges.
Trials are held every day, with the final 6 dogs running
for the title of Agfest Open Sheep Dog Champion.

KIDS AGRICULTURAL AWARENESS PROGRAM (KAAP)

Kids of all ages will love the KAAP Marquee. There are activities galore to create, discover and learn
about agriculture. Come along and say hello to the emus and alpacas in the nursery, make some play
dough to take home, have a go at a science experiment and much more. Exhibitor Wax Hands will also
be back to turn your hands into a waxy masterpiece.

one at each end of South Street, one
at the northern end of Eighth Avenue
(near craft) and one at the back of
125 in First Avenue. A disabled toilet
is located in each block. Two portable
buildings containing male/female
toilets are located near the south east
corner of the Unique Taste Pavilion and
the northern end of Sixth Avenue, next
to Heritage.
CHILDREN ID
BRACELETS
Collect a free ID bracelet for your child
at the entrance gates. Write your child’s
name and your mobile number and
secure it to your child’s arm. This makes
it easy for us to ring you with good news
if you get separated.

From Launceston - head towards Devonport on the Bass
Highway (1), 22kms from Launceston, turn into Oaks Road
(C511) at the Liffey Falls Exit.
From Devonport - head towards Launceston on the Bass
Highway (1). Approximately 7kms past the Hagley by-pass,
turn right into Oaks Road (C511) at the Liffey Falls Exit.
From Hobart - Follow the Midlands Highway (1) to Perth,
turn left onto (B52) and continue for 13kms and turn left onto
the Bass Highway (1). Travel approx 4kms and turn left onto
Oaks Road (C511) at the Liffey Falls Exit.
The Liffey Falls Exit on the Bass Highway is marked with large
yellow AGFEST directional signage.

AFTER 2:30PM
Agfest can’t be accessed from the Bass Highway between
2:30pm and 6pm due to both lanes of Oaks Road being
used for outbound exiting traffic.
