1. Lesson Introduction (2-3 min)


a. The students will enter the room, get their materials ready for the day and the teacher will review what was accomplished in the last class and
what will be worked on in today’s class. Take attendance, if needed.

2. Warm Ups (10-15 min)


a. Five note exercise – whole notes 60-70 bpm
i. Student will play and hold their first pitch
1. A drone of the first pitch will be played. Students will hum, sing, and then play and hold the pitch.
2. Student will continue with playing the exercise on their instrument(s).
b. Five note exercise – half notes – 60-70 bpm
c. Five note exercise – on an articulation pattern specified by the teacher – bpm will vary
d. Seven note exercise – whole notes 60-70 bpm
e. Seven note exercise – half notes – 60-70 bpm
f. Seven note exercise – on an articulation pattern specified by the teacher – bpm will vary
g. Physical Warm Up – Students will practices various stretches to physically and mentally get engaged for the class period.

3. Sawmill Creek (20-25 min)


a. Student will rehearse from measures 8-12.
b. Before playing as a group, students will identify the key signature, fingerings/slide positions (if needed), dynamic markings, and note durations.
c. Students will clap and count measures 8-12.
d. Students will be given 2-3 minutes to “self-practice” measures 8-12.
e. Students will rehearse measures 8-12 and will focus on the following:
i. Honoring the key signature
ii. Using correct fingerings/slide positions/ sticking’s
iii. Practicing appropriate dynamic level
iv. Honoring the correct note durations.

*If time allows students may rehearse Sawmill Creek from measures 1-12 and/or beyond measure 12.

4. Closure (3-5 min)

Closure:
Review sawmill Creek and what will need to be practiced for next rehearsal.

Homework/Extension Activities:
Practice Sawmill Creek measures 8-12. Practice Aura Lee for next rehearsal (the whole piece).
