The Student Service Sheet
The Work
Throughout the 2017-2018 school year, I
participated in three main service activities.
First, I altar served at Saint Kilian Parish, my
home parish, and Cardinal Wuerl North
Catholic High School Masses. I have been
altar serving for seven years, and have been a
senior altar server at Saint Kilian for three
years. I do this to involve myself in my
Church and school communities. I altar
served about once a month at Saint Kilian
and any time I was asked at North Catholic.
Next, I went on a mission trip to Mullens,
West Virginia with Saint Richard Parish.
Together with my brothers, friends, and
parishioners at Saint Richard, I helped
minister to the less fortunate in West
Virginia. I worked at two different sites,
providing families with necessities they could
not afford. We replaced a roof at one house
and put in new windows at another. I chose
to do this mission trip because it was a good
opportunity to serve the less fortunate with
my brothers and friends. Finally, I have
helped at CWNC school events over the past
year. I gave tours at the open house in the fall
and assisted at the Military Salute Brunch. I
also am registered to volunteer at the Gala on
April 28th. I participated in these service
opportunities because I was asked by
teachers or administration, to help, and I
enjoy contributing to my school community.
The Impact
These service experiences allowed me to realize
the importance of service, as well as all the
blessings in my life. I ministered to very poor
people in Mullens, which reminded me to be more
grateful for all that I have. I completed every task
to the best of my ability, giving my best effort
even when I was tired. I worked well with others
and made some new friends through these service
activities. However, I could have had a more
positive attitude toward some of these
opportunities; I was reluctant to have to meet and
work with new people at first.
I saw Christ present in those that I served,
especially on the mission trip. The gratitude of the
people to whom we ministered was incredible.
The service I provided to the poor was an
imitation of Christ’s work and mission he left for
his disciples. Although I was at first negative
about having to meet an entirely new group of
people and work with them, my attitude quickly
changed when I met the other kids and began
working with them. I also was able to see and
serve Christ directly through altar serving.
However, I struggled to see Him in the school
events I worked that often seemed to drag on.
