Beneath the Surface Stories

Beneath the Surface Stories: is an interactive display of stories of discrimination.


The program is open to all members of our community who wish to share personal stories.

The primary purpose of this event is to create conversations around these experiences.

Learning outcomes include but are not limited to:


1. Observe that some populations can be treated unfairly because of their characteristics.
2. Interpret and discuss what is meant by discrimination.
3. Predict and identify negative and discriminatory behavior.
4. Demonstrate knowledge on and or discuss different racial and ethnic identities by
applying theory.
5. Consider issues from multiple perspectives.

If you would like to participate, please complete the form below.

Submissions will be showcased at an exhibit to be held on April 9th, 2018 in the Blue Ridge
Conference Center.

By submitting your experience, you are consenting to have it displayed at the event. Personal
information will not be associated with the exhibits. Each exhibit will be stripped of all identifying
information (i.e. names, offices, locations, etc.).

This program is being sponsored by the Diversity Ambassadors, a student group that focuses
on peer education around diversity and inclusion, Intercultural Affairs, the Office of Accessibility
Resources, Office of Leadership and Student Involvement, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. For
