Creative Writing Competition

Dear Parents,

It is our pleasure to announce the 18th Annual Creative Writing Competition for the Heart
Mountain High School. If your son or daughter has any written works they have not yet turned in to a
teacher for grading, we want to read it! The top contestants of each department will have their work
published in the High School newsletter.

The Departments are as follows:

Poetry Short Story Essay Play

Poetry may have up to Short Stories must be Essays may follow Plays may have no

The piece entered into the competition must be the contestant’s own work and will be judged
based on quality, creativity, and grammar. Students may submit a work to each Department, but no
more than one piece may be submitted to each Department. Works that contain plagiarism will be
automatically disqualified.

Students can submit their work to the front office any time before March 1st. Works submitted
after this date will not be judged. Works must be presented in a folder according to the color of the
Department: Red for Poetry, Green for Short Stories, Blue for Essays, and Purple for Plays. Students
Names, Grade, and English Teacher must be listed on the front of the folder.
