Forum Report

On February 22, 2018 the forum was held in the Education and Humanities Theatre at

11am. The University College sent out emails for students to dress in professional attire however

many of students chose not to. The forum was entitled Sophomore Essentials which was a

presentation to help with the transition from freshmen to sophomores. They informed us to

schedule meetings with our advisors in order to register for classes for fall 2018 and talked to our

advisors in order to make sure you are on track for your intended major. The speakers also

encouraged us to apply for more scholarships and grants to help with covering the cost of

attendance and decrease the number of loans students have to take out in the future. They also

told us that financial aid does offer subsidize and unsubsidized loans to cover your tuition,

books, housing and it’s up to you to apply for the federal loans. They also urged us to apply to

the scholarship that Delaware State University has to offer for the returning students of 2018-

2019 provided by the DSU Foundation.

The speakers urged us to review the guidelines and eligibility before applying to the

scholarship in order to make sure we meet all the requirements. The also asked us to complete

the FAFSA in order to be eligible for more scholarship and/or grant money because it is first

come first serve. The speaker told us that if we are on a grant provided by Delaware State

University such as DSU Advantage Grant and the ANS Grant that they are required to complete

community service hours in order to keep the grant and maintain a grade point average over 2.5.
The speaker said that if you change your major or drop any classes that you will be at risk for

behind for graduating and it could effect your financial aid.
