Week: 30 Grade Level: Kindergarten

Objectives:
● Students will review sound and silence and explore it in depth.
● Students will learn about steady beat.
● Students will practice playing instruments and learn new songs.
● Students will learn a new dance and interact with their peers.

Materials:
● Smartboard: Little Robin
● Egg Shakers
● Quaver: Bluebird Lyrics, 5 Green and Speckled Frogs, 5 Frogs Grow Smart
● Book: Jump, Frog, Jump
● Bean Bags (represent frogs)
● Orff instruments (drums, metallophones, xylophones)

Procedure:
1. Tell students objective.
2. Learn words to “Little Robin” (speaking voice)
3. Learn song to “Little Robin” (singing voice)
4. Teacher points to each nest and students speak Tweet for birds
5. Choose a student to remove a bird from the nest (silence on this nest)
6. Hand out Egg Shakers for students to play on bird—students can still
remove birds (sound and silence)
7. Quaver song: Bluebird and class game
8. From front: Read Jump, Frog, Jump and use bean bags to keep rhythm of
“Jump, frog, jump (rest)”
9. Talk about playing metallophones/etc. and proper techniques
10. Each row in the carpet square is their own “frog”
11. Listen to “5 Green and Speckled Frogs” to get each row at a time to go
find an instrument and join in with steady beat—put bean bag into box
(everyone else still finding steady beat with bean bag)
12. Once all students are at an instrument, play song again and tap to steady
beat
13. Continue rotating
14. Play instruments to the rhythm “Jump, frog, jump, rest”
15. Follow frog puppet on teacher’s arm for when to play
16. Song “Move, Freeze” back to SB spot
17. Sing “5 Green and Speckled Frogs” (students use their fingers on opposite
hand and pretend to be the frogs disappearing)
18. If time at end, listen to story “5 Frogs Grow Smart” (Quaver)

Assessment:
● Can students exhibit sound and silence in a variety of ways?
● Can students keep a steady beat with 80% success rate? Do they understand what
steady beat is?
