2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Runway Lighting Interface module interfaces between the AWOS and the runway lighting system.
The module has 6 optoisolated inputs, to galvanically separate the runway lighting system from the AWOS
system. The user can select either all clean contacts or all voltage level inputs.

4 HARDWARE
The Runway Lighting Interface Module is a network adapter with 6 channel photo isolator input.

Referring to ICAO Doc 9328 the user needs to establish whether the runway edge lights or runway centre
lights will be used. The module can be located in the AWOS rack or at the runway lighting control system,
with communications via TCP/IP network to the AWOS rack.

4.1 Connections: Voltage Free Contacts

The connections are made to the card via a 9 pin connector on the card edge.

The lighting system must connect to the card via one contact pair for every lighting stage.
These contacts must be voltage free. The common of all contacts is connected in common.

5 SOFTWARE

There are no operator controls for the software

5.1 PORT SETTING

The IP address and Port must be set in the ADAM TCP5000 software module and the configuration file
need to match..

5.2 CONFIGURATION FILE

The following extract from the MITAS configuration file is required to configure the Runway Lighting
Interface.
This is set at the factory and for changes to this, the user is requested to consult the factory.

SITE6]
SITENAME=LIGHTS
INVERT=TRUE
IP=10.0.0.100
PORT=0x1080
DRIVER= ADAM6060
[

The INVERT parameter enables the user to configure a range of logic combinations as follows:

INVERT=FALSE is the setting for voltage free normally open contacts

INVERT=TRUE is the setting for voltage free normally closed contacts

5.3 RUNWAY LIGHTING INTERFACE WINDOW

This service runs in the Surface Weather Server.
The green square flashes green when the inputs are polled.

5.4 Safety Precautions

There are no lethal voltages present in the unit under normal operational conditions.

Users are advised not to work on this equipment in the field during thunderstorm activity.

5.5 Operator Pre-Start

This is started automatically by software

5.6 Start, Shutdown and Post-Shutdown Procedures

Once installed, no special start or shutdown procedures are required.

5.7 Normal Operations

No operator involvement required.

5.8 Emergency operations
Remove the connector from the card if a dangerous condition is detected..

5.9 Operator Service Requirements

No calibration is required. No maintenance is required other than removal of accumulated dust in the
computer every 5 years.

5.10 Environmental Conditions

Humidity 0…100%
Temperature -40…+60°C

6 Appendices

6.1 Troubleshooting

6.1.1 Failure

Inability to read changes in light settings is usually caused by the cables between the runway lighting
system and the Surface Weather Server and this should be checked first.

Connection from DIO to GND should result in a reading of lighting stage 1 . If this does not work reinstall
the driver and restart the SWS software.
