12 | Release Notes MiVoice Office 400 Release 4.0 SP1 - GA depl-2415 / 1.0
8 IMPORTANT HINTS & RESTRICTIONS

8.1 GENERAL

• The upgrade from all former Mitel Office 400 GA versions is supported.
o Customers upgrading from R3.0 or lower must read the R3.1 release notes
(“important hints” and “known restrictions“).
• A new software generation licence is necessary to run Release 4.0 or 4.0 SP1 when
upgrading form earlier releases.
• For the upgrade from R4.0 to R4.0 SP1 no new licences are necessary.

8.2 DUAL HOMING

• Be aware that a backup server must run the same software as the primary server.

8.3 WEBADMIN

• Use Firefox, IE (best is IE10 or higher) or Chrome to take advantage of the improvements.
• After copy or import of Mitel SIP phone keys in WebAdmin, the personal line and line keys
have to be added manually again.
• The terminal key configuration for SIP-DECT is working for the Mitel 602 and the 650c
handsets. The Mitel 600d handsets are not supported even though it is possible to
configure keys for them, the settings will be ignored.
• Satellites with too old (invalid) licences show 4 hours instead 36 hours to go into restricted
mode after restart. This is just a wrong display.

13 | Release Notes MiVoice Office 400 Release 4.0 SP1 - GA depl-2415 / 1.0
8.4 SOFTWARE ASSURANCE INFORMATION IN WEBADMIN

• Since Release R4.0 SP1 the online connection with SLS is supported.
• The SWA state is shown with more details in different views; top bar, system overview,
licences overview, software upload view.
o Colored SWA icon (empty or solid) in the top bar:
 Empty icon means the system is not connected to the SLS cloud and the
information shown in the different views is based on the local licence code
contents.

 Solid icon means the system is connected with the SLS cloud and the
information displayed in the different views is gathered from the SLS cloud.

The licenses part in the licences view contains always the contents of the
licence code.
• The SWA state does not have any functional restrictions on the call manager. It is just a
representation of the SWA state out of the licence code or online from the SLS cloud.
o If SWA is active means:
 At this time it is possible to upgrade the system on the licence server to a
newer release (major or minor) and it is possible to get the corresponding
licence for the new software.
 The customer will get support in the defined way.
o If SWA is not present or expired:
 It’s not possible to upgrade the system on the licence server and to get a
licence for a new major or minor release.
 The customer will not get support for this system.

• The systems can be upgraded anytime to a newer major or minor release, even when SWA
is expired. But without a valid licence for the new software release (major or minor) the
systems will enter restricted mode after 4 hours.
• Satellites online with the Master will show the SWA state of the Master system. Satellites
offline from the Master will show their own SWA state.
• Following users are counted for SWA user licenses and are considered in the SWA user
calculation: “Free seating pool”, “Backup users” (on the Backup server), “SIP-DECT
conferences rooms”, “Booth”, “Rooms” (SWA user licenses applies to Mitel 470 controller).
• Changes done on the SLS can have a delay of 1 hour till they will be displayed in the
WebAdmin of the call manager.
• Satellites with too old (invalid) licences show 4 hours instead 36 hours to go into restricted
mode after restart. This is just a wrong display.

8.5 MITEL 6800 SIP PHONES

8.5.1 MITEL 6800 SIP PHONES REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Since R4.0 SP1, the Mitel SIP phones get their configuration files over https.
• The registration procedure for new Mitel SIP Phones is as follows:
 Let default “Download Protocol” at “TFTP”
 Enter the IP Address of the call manager as “Primary Server”
 Save and reboot the phone
 Login with the credentials described below.
• You find the needed credentials for the login on the phone in WebAdmin view Terminals ->
SIP registration or in the Terminal view.
 All newly created Mitel SIP Phones with MAC-Address FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF are listed in
the SIP registration view. The credentials contains digits and */# only to be able to enter
these with the dial pad of the phones.
• The user has to enter this “Registration user-name” and “Registration-password” to login on
the phone.

8.5.2 MITEL 6800 SIP PHONES FUNCTIONALITY

Call waiting with Mitel SIP phones:

• Call waiting now works on calls towards the Mitel SIP phones. It can be activated in the
normal way on a system phone, analogue phone or for incoming external calls.
• Note that there is no means of activating a call waiting manually on a Mitel SIP phone if the
destination is busy. However, this can be done automatically if the “force call waiting”
parameter is set in WebAdmin for the terminal initiating the call. Setting this parameter also
causes the user setting “call waiting protection” to be ignored.

First call for CFU (call forwarding unconditional):

• The parameter “First call if call forwarding unconditional is active” in the user’s permission
set currently does not work if the caller is using a Mitel SIP phone. This is a consequence
of the improvements that have been made to the handling of CFNR (Call Forwarding on No
Reply).

8.5.3 MITEL 6800 SIP PHONES MOVING TO OTHER USERS OR OTHER SYSTEM

There are several cases where the Mitel SIP phones needs a factory reset and in most cases one
needs to reset the MAC address to FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF in WebAdmin (this behaviour is necessary
due to security reasons). Some of the cases are:
• Moving a phone which was running on Release 4.0 SP1 to an older release (e.g. R4.0).
• Moving one phone to another user within the same system
• After changing the IP address of the call manager
• Moving a phone to another system of same release

8.5.4 MITEL 6800 SIP PHONES USED WITH ALARMING APPLICATIONS

• Alarming is fully supported with the new firmware 4.2 of the Mitel 6800 SIP phones and the
enhancements on the call managers.
• We recommend realizing new projects with Mitel SIP phones for Alarming with Release 4.0
SP1 and Mitel Alarm Server 3.1 because no fully working solution is available with Release
4.0.

8.6 SIP-DECT 6.1

• The terminal key configuration for SIP-DECT is working for the Mitel 602 and the 650c
handsets. The Mitel 600d handsets are not supported even though it is possible to
configure keys for them, the settings will be ignored.
• It is possible to have the keys configured all local on the handsets, all on the Call Manager
or a mix of both.
o After an upgrade from earlier release to R4.0 SP1 no keys will be assigned in the
call manager and the locally programmed keys from the phone are used.
o A newly created phone will get the default keys defined in the call manager and the
local keys will be overwritten.
o It is possible to have a mix of keys defined in the call manager WebAdmin and of
local keys on the phone. By deleting a key in the WebAdmin of the call manager the
local key programming is enabled on the phone. Be aware that local keys
configured on the phone are not visible in WebAdmin or SSP.
• In some cases it is maybe best to make a master reset on the terminal to get rid of all
historic configurations.
o Go into the Menu -> select “System Menu” -> Dial ***76# (blind) -> the “Service
Menu” appears , scroll down to “Reset functions” and select this -> scroll down to
“Master reset” and select this ….
 The terminal has the same state as out of the box
• If other applications (e.g. for Alarm Servers) has been configured, please configure them
again after the provisioning from the MiVoice system has been completed
• After the upgrade to R4.0 SP1, some old XML applications need to be deleted manually on
the OMM. Go to “System Features / XML applications” and delete all the functions that can
be deleted (usually the bottom 5 or 6). Then trigger an update in “System / Basic Settings”
and the new functions should be configured.
