ABSTRACT

The dangerous use of styrofoam for health is associated with problems in the
community, especially street hawkers in areas that have not been affected by the use of
styrofoam. The preliminary study results showed that many street vendors serving hot food
using styrofoam because according to the traders Styrofoam packaging is very practical and
cheap .
The purpose of this research is to know the relationship of knowledge and attitude of
food handlers with the behavior of using styrofoam on food packaging in Tanjungsari
traditional market of Sumedang regency in 2017.
The type of research used is descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach.
Primary data obtained through the spread of questionnaires and direct observation of
respondents with a population of 112 people. Sampling using purposive sampling to get
sample as much as 53 respondents.
The result of this research is know the knowledge of food handlers about the use of
Styrofoam mostly less knowledge about 42 people, food handlers attitude more than half do
not support as many as 34 people, behavior of food handlers mostly using styrofoam counted
41 people, there is relationship between knowledge with the use of styrofoam, between
attitudes with the use of styrofoam.
Suggestions for PD market to be able to work with health workers to socialize adverse
health effects due to the use of styrofoam.
