Ago Today… Van Takes Out Signs And Hits Ditch

M ay 4th, 2018 marks


the 70th anniversary
of the biggest disaster in
Minnedosa’s 135 year his-
tory. At 7:07 p.m. on Tues-
day, May 4th, 1948, the
Minnedosa dam collapsed
sending the water of the
lake rushing towards town.
On May 1st, local resi-
dent, Ed Brewer was fish-
ing along the banks of the
river near the dam when
he noticed that a previous
small crack in the spillway
had become a large gap-
ing crevice. He rushed into
town to sound the alarm
and within the hour, vol-
unteer workmen were on
scene and began pushing
large stones along the side
of the dam. This process
