READING Read this article and do tasks A and B 5 x 0.2 = 1 mark

Because it’s so easy to use the Internet these days, virtually anyone can think to themselves ‘let’s set up
a website’. Maybe you want a home page for friends to look at, or how about advertising your local
club? A___. Before you begin, make sure you know why you want a website and what it’s going to be
for. It’s also important to choose a good name early on and get an address for the web page. It should be
a name that’s easy to remember and the best ones are usually those which say what the site does or
which get your attention.

Take the site www.milliondollarhomepage.com. Alex Tew, the student who came up with it, chose a
name that said what it was about and it was also interesting because most people want to know about
anything that mentions money. B____. So I strongly recommend that you include links to other sites.
These need to be up-to-date and useful.

You might think that links to other sites will send people away but in fact if you can help users they will
keep coming back to yours. Also, don’t forget that links can take the form of words that you click on or
they can be icons which are more visual and make the site colourful. C ____. That’s ok but it’s also
good to remember that if you have more features and effects, it will be harder to find what you want and
it can take a long time to load the site.

Task A: Insert sentences/ clauses 1 to 3 in the right blank and complete the boxes with A, B or C

1 People also often ask me about things like having pictures and music

2 Perhaps you could even start an e-business and become a dot com millionaire.

3 Another reason people visit sites is because they want information.

Task B Circle T for true and F for false. Correct the false statement/s on the blank line/s below.

4 According to the writer, adding options to your website can be a disadvantage. T F

5 The writer wants to give advice on how to make money online. T F
