Abstract
Centrifugal model tests are conducted to study the bearing capacity, deformation rules and effect of slope inclination on failure rules of soil nail-
reinforced cohesive soil slopes when they subjected to a vertical load applied to a strip footing. The failure processes are observed photographically
and the displacements of slopes are measured. The results show that the slope stability is signi cantly affected by the surface load. When vertical load
increased, soil deformation concentrated; slip surfaces can be noted and propagated which will eventually lead to collapse of the slope. Under the
in uence of loading process and strip footing, soil nails closer to the slope surface exhibits an intensive interaction with the soil resulting from the
increasing load. As the slope inclination increases, the bearing capacity decreases and the soil exhibits much more obvious movement tendency toward
slope surface.

Studies on structural performance of embankment slopes reinforced by geogrids with

model tests
August 2005

Based on the small scale model tests, the structural performances of ten reinforced and unreinforced slopes were studied, which include two slope angles, 1:1
and 1:1.2; two kinds of geogrids, Tensar 40 RE and 80 RE; and three different reinforcement layers, zero, one and three layers. Under a strip footing load near the
slope crest, the deformations of slopes and geogrids were modeled. The... [Show full abstract]

Centrifuge modeling of the failure of geotextile-reinforced slopes

December 2008

The in uence of the geotextiles on the deformation and failure of geotextile-reinforced slopes is a key issue in slope stability. Centrifugal model tests were
conducted to investigate the failure of soil slopes reinforced using geotextiles. The deformation elds and their changes due to loading were measured using an
image-based displacement measurement system. The failure and deformation of... [Show full abstract]

Instrumentation and Monitoring of an MSE/Soil Nail Hybrid Retaining Wall
March 2009

MSE/soil nail hybrid earth retaining walls provide a more economical design for applications in cut/ ll situations than the traditionally used full height MSE and
drilled shaft retaining walls. MSE/soil nail hybrid earth retaining walls use a soil nailed wall in the cut section and an MSE wall in the ll section. In spite of the
signi cant cost savings they offer, hybrid walls have not seen... [Show full abstract]

Nail reinforcement mechanism of cohesive soil slopes under earthquake conditions

August 2010

Soil nails have been widely used to retain excavations and stabilize steep cutslopes. A series of dynamic centrifuge model tests were conducted on nail-reinforced
and unreinforced slopes during an earthquake, with several in uence factors, including the nail length, nail spacing, and the inclination of slope, taken into
consideration. The unreinforced slope exhibited a progressive failure in... [Show full abstract]
