feels the love this week! He is a part of our classroom family and works
hard every day to support our class! I would like to have the class gift him
with a Teacher Rolling Cart to carry all of his materials around. If you’d like
to be a part of this surprise, please send 1 dollar with your child by Friday!

Current Learning:

Fundations: We will take our Unit 14 Spelling test on Tuesday.

We are finishing week 2 of Unit 14. This unit focuses on the vowel teams ou and
ow. The ou combination can only be used in the middle or at the end of a
word/syllable. The ow combination can be used in the middle or at the end of a
word/syllable.
On Wednesday, we will begin Unit 15 (2 week unit). This unit focuses on how to
read and spell words with 4 new spellings of /u/. Please check your child’s take-
home-folder on Wednesday for the Unit 15 homework packet.
Trick Words:
Week 1: Spoon, soup, overdue
Week 2: Blew, argue, shook

Math: Unit 8- This week we will revisit place value through and beyond 1,000 as
well as 3-digit addition and subtraction. We will continue to measure our
classroom plants (peas and corn) using centimeters.

Reading: We will continue to focus on comprehension skills during our daily

reading groups. We will be focusing on researching using books and computers
this week in relation to our social studies “then and now” unit.

Writing: Revising- Students are working on revising their Lab reports with their
partners. Specifically, we learned last week that when writing our results and
conclusions, it is important to revisit your hypothesis, ask questions about the
results, and include possible reasons.

Can you believe your children are conducting the Scientific Method in 2nd
grade!?! It’s so incredible to watch them become little experts!! We have gone
through the entire scientific method and have followed these 5 steps for How to
Write Like a Scientist:

1. Ask a QUESTION about how the world works.

2. Record a HYPOTHESIS, a guess.
3. How will you test it? RECORD your procedure.
4. Conduct multiple trials, and record your results.
5. Analyze your results, and write a conclusion.

Science: We had SO much fun on our exploration to Swickard Woods! Check

out pictures from our trip on our classroom website! Last week and this week we
will continue to explore Force and Motion (in relation to our scientific writing).

Social Studies: This week we will learn all about changes over time and how
change can be shown with artifacts, maps and photographs. Students will work
in small groups to research a specific pyridine shift between old and new. For
example: schools, technology, transportation, etc.

WIG WEDNESDAY- We have successfully achieved our April Goal (Quickly and
quietly lining up)!! On Wednesday, we will celebrate with a movie and popcorn
in the afternoon. Despicable Me 3 is rated PG. In order to watch this movie, all
parents must sign a consent form. I will send the form home tomorrow with your
child. Please return by Wednesday!
