diversity in the physical environment. (5 pts)

In this classroom there is so many different representative of diversity, they

have different wall covers, they have some diversity books, multi-cultural

dolls as well as some multi-cultural books.

9. a. While the children are involved in independent play they get to

choose which children they would like to play with. Usually it’s anywhere

from two to four children in a center. All the shelves are labeled as well as

the toy bins, so that they children can see what is available in the center.

Pretty much anything is available for the children to use throughout the

day.

b. While the children are playing sometimes their play gets interrupted

because the teacher pulls them to come do a project at the table with her.

The children in this room interact with each other a lot. In the dramatic play

center you can see children using the housekeeping objects to pretend to

be cooking dinner or taking care of the babies. In the block center I saw

children talking about the road they were building and where it went to.

One student was using the airplanes to make an airport.

2. Write an overall evaluation of the Learning Environment. (21 pts)

a. Rating: Using a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best, if you were the

director or principal of this school how would you rate this learning

Environment?

The learning environment in this classroom I would rate it a 4. There are so

many centers for the children to play in. There is many types of centers, as
well as learning materials for the students to engage in. There are pictures

of their work on the walls for the students to look at and see. The room is

also set up so that there are not as many opportunities for the children to

just run around and get into trouble. Even while the children are playing

they are also having the opportunity to learn as well.

b. Strengths & Weaknesses: Specifically explain your rating by identifying

the strengths and weaknesses you observed.

The strengths that I observed was the openness of the room, but the

closeness of the centers, what I mean by that is that the room has so many

centers that it elevates the open floor for running. One weakness I notice

while observing is one of the teachers would close centers to the children.

They were told the center wasn’t to be played in (As an Assistant Director

after I observed this, I made sure that she knew that was not on option that

the children can play in any center that they chose.)

c. Improvements: Identify specific improvements, you, as the

administrator, would expect to see.

I would like to see a rotation of toys in the classroom, so that the children

could play with different toys instead of the same ones. Also as I pointed

out above is for the teachers not to close off any centers to the children. I

would also like to see some more 3D art with the children displayed.
