Project Title Online Professional Development in the School

Description (500-750 word) Problem / Need / Opportunity

Briefly outline In my school, staff training in the area of technology has fallen
- The problem/need/ opportunity off in the past few years. In previous years, our school offered
- Goals and intended audiences its staff at least one professional development (PD) each
- Planned activity semester within the area of technology. However, it failed to
- Methods for assessing success offer any PD last year and has yet to do so this year. One of the
- Anticipated outcomes and
main reasons for this is the limited time that is offered each year
value of the work.
for in-person, in-building PD. The failure to facilitate
in-building PD, caused by a lack of time to meet in person has
provided an opportunity to create online PD that the staff can
access during times of their choosing. Another reason for the
lack of in-building PD currently offered in my school is the
absence of a Technology Vision to guide our PD offerings.

Goals
1. Lead the school Technology Committee towards
creating a vision for the use of technology in our
building.
2. Create asynchronous online PD for staff, to be housed in
Schoology.
3. Curate materials from previous PDs, to be housed in
Schoology.

Intended Audience
My intended audience is the in-building staff at my school.

Planned Activities
The planned activities include:
● Creating a course shell using Schoology
● Creating a series of screencasts that demonstrate various
technological tools that staff members can use to
increase their work productivity.
● Providing a database of the tools presented. The
database will include download links for the specific

tools presented, as well as links to similar tools that staff
can further explore if they choose.
● Working with the school’s Technology Committee to
create a building-wide Technology Vision.
Methods for Assessing Success
To assess whether or not this Intenship has been successful, I
will:
● Use Schoology Analytics to gauge how many users have
visited the Schoology course.
● Technology Committee will have a rough draft version
of a building-side Technology Vision.

Anticipated Outcomes
It is difficult to anticipate exact outcomes for this Internship.
The staff in my building is largely experienced (15 + years
teaching), with a great deal of them being resistant to using
technology within their practice. Thus, it is difficult to estimate
what percentage of staff members will access the Schoology
course. However, I would anticipate that most of the younger
staff members will access the Schoology Course. I also think
that some of the more experienced staff members will
participate, but may need a lot of assistance outside of the
online PD to do so. Thus, I anticipate that the creation of a
robust online PD program in my building will be a multi-year
effort. With regards to the building-wide Technology Vision, I
am fully confident that our school’s Technology Committee
will be able to generate one by the end of this internship.

Value of the Work

This work carries a lot of value. For instance, one of my online
trainings will show teachers how they can decrease the amount
of time that they need to spend in the copy room. This would
save the school money spent on repairs to the copier machines.
It would also decrease the amount of traffic in the copy room,
which often prohibits teachers from making thier copies or
scanning materials in a timely manner. This causes many staff
members a great deal of stress that could be avoided if they
knew how to decrease the amount of trips that they need to
make to the copy room. A number of other tools for increasing
work productivity that I will present will save staff members
time that they spend on the logistics of preparing for their
classes. This will free up additional time that would be better
spent on planning effective lessons. Additionally, a school
absolutely needs a Technology Vision in order to guide its
in-building PD.
